Tidal will be demonetizing AI-generated music: Starting today, AI-generated music will not be monetizable. We are only in the beginning of the era of AI-generated music. We acknowledge the ongoing debate regarding whether certain AI-generated music (e.g. AI-generated music developed from fairly and properly licensed models) should be entitled to earn royalties. This debate will continue as the technology advances and rightsholders and AI music platforms develop licensing models. Tidal’s priority is ensuring royalties go to original works directly produced, written, and performed by people. We will therefore not knowingly attribute royalties to music we identify as wholly AI-generated. more Not all embedded content is displayed here. Been saying this for awhile. Take the money out of it and you'll see a massive drop in AI generated music.
Tidal has always been for the artist first, from what I know. It hasn’t always translated to success, but it’s still kicking so things must be okay. Not surprised they are going this route instead of “We’ll just label it” as some sort of half measure considering their roots.
Betting they saw people stream a song for :02, realize it was AI and skip it. Glad they are doing this.
