has it ever been stated by the band if the two halves of city represent the original double album idea? like the first 5 tracks were the "best" of disc one and the last 5 were the "best" of disc two; and then the interlude acts as a "changing" or "transitioning" of discs. kinda makes sense, especially the way they spliced the two original titles for each disc to name the final product. not sure if that's been discussed here already
They sounded fucking great. Still really surprised by the crowd size. I thought the place would've been unbearably packed.
From the sounds of it, this tour hasn't sold well unfortunately. Also being on a Tuesday doesn't help either. St Andrews was way too big for this tour, honestly should've been at the Magic Stick.
hey does anyone know how Geoff plays Turnpike Divides acoustic? I have some variation of the opening riff being a B-E-G-SOMETHING ELSE chord progression but that's about as far as I've gotten. I'm doing it on power chords right now, but I know that's not exactly right because when he plays it acoustic i can hear the top high strings ring out too (which i suppose could just be him not muting them when he plays the power chords?? I guess??). any help would be great and would mean a lot!!
Man last night was a No Dev kinda night. When that guitar starts in Stay True I get legite emotional every time. I'm normally a heartless fuck.
Listened through light divided on vinyl for the first time in a long time, it's not my favorite but it was just right for today. Easily the most beautiful vinyl I own too. The black/red/white is gorgeous.
The sheer diversity of that album while still remaining cohesive is still impressive to me. Wish we could hear the original double album form at some point
Also holding out hope that it will see the light of day. Preferably, in some nifty little deluxe edition vinyl set.
I don't think they ever recorded it like that, as a double album. I also remember they were talking about a plan to record a song on that album featuring like every prominent vocalist from "the scene" at that point, but it never happened. Pretty sure that was the plan for the demo "Untitled 5" (parts of it became Last Call) but it never happened. My memory may be letting me down though.
Oh yeah, I remember that. I think they wanted jake from converge, Jordan from etid, and tetsuya from envy
Those songs must exist in some recorded form tho? I am positive that I read in an interview or smth that even though they were cut, at least they "now had a slew of b sides for release later" or something to that effect. And I guess there's always listening to that first UN album for some but a Thursday arrangement would've been way different
I hate to be a downer, but with one-third of the lineup not even doing most of the tour, the tour not selling well, and both Geoff and Tucker having lots of other balls in the air I'd be very surprised if they tour again, much less record music. Maybe a small European run late summer/early autumn but if Andrew and Tim couldn't even make it to the midwest then that seems unlikely I'd say. The occasional festival appearance a few times a year seems the most likely to me going forward.
there was no talk of new music in thursday's camp, no. the tour isn't selling well? where'd we find that out?
Just based on observations posters here have made from the shows they've gone to. Sizable venues but not a big turnout. I can't remember what the Fillmore looked like in Philly, but I'm pretty sure it's ~2500 in cap, which is about 1500 people larger than the Theater of the Living Arts, which is where they played in Philly for their farewell tour.
There's been a lot of talk in the Thursday tour forum about how low the attendance has been at the shows and people leaving after Basement/Touche. I can only speak personally for the Cleveland show (which eventually, House of Blues was selling BOGO tickets the week before) it was maybe 40% full by the time Thursday went on. A lot of people left after Basement. I didn't see the balcony for myself, but heard there was no one up there, and really just people were in the pit and that was it. It wasn't the least attended show I've ever seen at HOB Cleveland, but it was probably in the top 3.
Oh gotcha. My show was like that and initially I thought it'd be less than the crowds for other bands but it seemed like (at my date) that as younger kids left a lot of older people came in after the openers were done. This is a bummer to hear though
I want to say they sold 450 and just under 600 showed up. The Friday and Saturday before the show they gave blocks of tickets to some of the local bars in Ohio City and Tremont to pass out to people. It was like they just wanted people to show up. It was kind of bummer, but I still enjoyed the show. I don't know if it's on the band or Live Nation, but it's pretty evident that the tour should have been booked in smaller rooms. Agora Ballroom or Beachland (still bigger than their farewell tour) would have been perfect and we'd be talking how the whole tour was sold out every night.
I found a website by accident, which leads me to believe that they've signed with a new label. I don't want to post the website, in case that makes the band mad at the label for letting it be public. Could be nothing, but they have an entry on a labels store that they never signed with before.
