City is such a great record, really wish there were...just one or two more tracks from it being played live. Autumn Leaves, Into the Blinding Light, Telegraph Avenue Kiss (remix version), Running from the Rain. Really the back half of that record after the instrumental is five bangers in a row. Wish they'd swap out At This Velocity for Into the Blinding Light at the very least.
I was talking to a friend about this earlier today and was like “I’m down on it hypothetically but when I’m actually at the show I’m gonna have a great time because I always do”
I love that they're playing Sugar In the Sacrament--easily a top 5 song of theirs for me. But yeah I wish they were doing more from the album and def replacing Counting
Thursday is my absolute favorite band and I can't stand Counting. It's such a weak song. I agree with that label guy on the Kill The House Lights documentary - 'It's Thursday by numbers'. No idea why the band stuck to their guns on it being a top-tier single. It would be great if they cut that and replaced it with a different No Dev/City song or snuck in one of the new tracks. I'd give anything to hear White Bikes live.
That outro of Counting starting at 2:36 makes the rest of the song worth it IMO. my take is that since they aren’t playing jet black (like every other tour) they have to have a song where Geoff can count on stage. :D
Currently rewatching the Kill the House Lights DVD and performance. "Sugar in the Sacrament" goes so crazy live
I was at every Starland holiday show before the split and every one was a different kind of special and totally memorable - though the best one was when Geoff announced on stage a secret show the next day at Maxwells. Only time I ever got to her them play Streaks in the Sky. The craziest part about the documentary is they weren't even a band for 10 years when Steve put it together. We need a sequel.
Tbh I could watch them play at this velocity over and over as the setlist and be content even tho it would be RIP to Geoff's vocal cords. But you can change it to any City song and I'd feel the same!
Show rocked last night but yeah seemed like the crowd just patiently waited until they played Full Collapse songs although a couple City tracks got big reactions too. Forgot how much I love Lovesong Writer.
Can't imagine how frustrating it must be for a multi-album band to know that wherever they tour most people will only care about the one they wrote 25 years ago. Fucking sucks.
It's so fun to watch the people who don't know what's coming when Geoff launches into the opening in what seems like just the middle of a long, rambling story. A real jump scare.
I think you are over-simplifying things here. I don't think most people care only about Full Collapse, but for many it is their favorite album, so of course they are happy when many songs off of that are played. And the guys in the band seem to know their audience. I don't think they are half as frustrated as most people here in this thread are. I think I have said it before, but it still stands: this is the most miserable thread on the whole website.
OK, so what's the "evidence" you're talking about? And even if people would only care about FC, then that first statement would still be weird.
