Going to the NJ show and it's my first time on the East coast and I bought the NJ shirt online which I'm gonna double as my NJ souvenir!
I got legit emotional during their performance it sounded so good. I can't believe how many people missed coming early because it was immaculate
i somehow missed white bikes on release so that was the first time i heard it and i goddamn levitated. unreal experience
Looking at videos on their IG feed and stadium looked really empty for them. Is there not a lot of cross over between them and MCR?
Thursday just isn't a stadium-filling band and they never were. I imagine MCR invited them to open because they're good friends.
Well I'm sure every Thursday fan probably likes MCR but MCR plays football stadiums and Thursday plays what, 1500-cap venues at the largest when they headline? Usually smaller? I think that tells you what you need to know. We're kind of in a bubble on here lol...it wouldn't surprise me if like 10% of Thursday's remaining fan base has an account on this site, which is insane. Reminding myself that also helps me cope with realities like most of their ""new"" stuff being goddamn merch and the fact that several of the guys don't tour with the band anymore. They just don't have much of a market at all sadly. But I'm grateful Geoff brought it back and still keeps the thing going in whatever form
I get what you're saying but also if I wrote or played on that song and was playing an NFL stadium I'd sure as fuck want to know what it felt/sounded like to play it there haha. Sounds massive, especially at the end
When you're the first band of a long show and you're used to get hundreds of people at your shows, the turnout looked pretty great last night. Good for them, they deserve it.
Wild that Thursday isn’t as big. I saw them in a super small venue outside of Philly recently and was surprised they were playing it. I associate them as torch bearers to the early 2000’s scene. Maybe one of those bands that influenced the bands that ended up getting more popular? They should at least be on the same level as TBS or MCR though I get MCR had some mainstream success that broke them through to a different level
yeah I think they're kind of "your favourite band's favourite band" in this scene, I think anyone who's reasonably plugged in knows their legacy but they don't have a hit like MakeDamnSure that the more casual folks would know
even without much recording activity it always felt to me that Thursday should be pulling bigger crowds than they do. There has long seemed to be a massive disparity between how well known they are and how big their crowds are. Even as a (…especially as a?) legacy band they should be selling bigger venues than basements. Not like anybody is going to any of their contemporaries’ shows for new stuff.
Don't worry I was a one woman energy hypeman for them in my section with my dove tattoo doing my duty. A few scattered people around me were clearly fans and vibing but there were also a lot of younger fans around who may not be as keyed into the MCR/Thursday origin story?idk
I also think they never recovered from ACBTLD, which I wouldn't describe as experimental or a big departure, but did split their fanbase with some of its turns and the production choice.
So this means they recorded the show and will be releasing a live version of it I assume. Or that they are getting together for a writing session for whatever upcoming new music they have been planning.
