Wouldn’t be a problem if every announcement wasn’t centered on nostalgia (aside from the one time it was a new song)
this one wouldn't be as annoying to me if they hadn't just released a new song and said they might keep putting new songs out here and there.
It’s just frustrating since I was getting extremely frustrated by the lack of a future vision and a reliance on past glories until the new song and I really will not be happy if they go right back to what they were doing for the last 7 years prior
It’s tough because unfortunately that nostalgia is how they pay their bills and survive. It sucks because trust me I want to hear things post WATT. But people don’t come out to those shows, and people go quiet during those parts of the set. Drives me insane.
In a just world we’re getting a new album they’re confident in and playing songs from their entire career not just a set composed of 95% from two albums
Sure but why even get back together in the first place then? Simply to pay the bills? Lots of bands do it sure but this is also a band with a DIY history that at one point was very strongly tied to their identity and is why some of us resonated with them growing up. I understand the demand for anniversary shows and re recording albums but I also think there’s a balance to it. Jimmy Eat World and Thrice are two bands that pay respects to their past releases while looking forward artistically. I never thought Thursday would be reduced to anniversary shows and album tours but here we are. I think I’m justified in feeling frustrated about it, that’s not what I’ve ever wanted out of this band. I thought their recent show was so good because I hadn’t seen them in so long and we got to hear a new song. If next year they’re doing the same set list it’ll be another good few years before I feel like it’s worth it to bother again.
Idk why peeps say post-WATT shows don’t get people to come out. Where’s the proof? It’s had to have been years. When was the last time the band gave attention to any of those albums at all? They haven’t had shows for those albums for people to come out to!
I’m not worked up to the point of needing to calm down or take things personally. I have an opinion. What the fuck is happening?
I literally just wanted to thoughtfully articulate why I feel the way I do. Did not expect that sort of reaction to it. I’m really confused
I have this band’s logo tattooed on my arm. I love them. I can also be annoyed at their choices on a music message board lol
I get the nostalgia shows bring in the money but I too wish they'd move forward a lil more, even if I understand the choice. Tho I realized how hard I simp for the band when they released one new song and I got so pumped I was ready to see them again just for one new song lmao. I've seen them play the same two albums so many times I'm surprised anyone who is a casual fan who are only hyped on those two albums for nostalgia haven't gotten their fill by now. At least tour on City plz
I’ve got a friend I’ve been meaning to visit who lives half an hour from the venue so that may be enough to make me go, but as somebody who’s favorite bands are underoath and Thursday the nostalgia grabs are making me roll my eyes so hard it’s getting harder to get excited for each show. Im happy they each can keep doing this, I’ll continue to get stoked to see them, I’m fortunate to have seen em as much as I have, but it is nauseating. Is there really not room in a set for either band to squeeze in one or 2 deep cuts across THREE+ albums each? at least swap out 1-3 of the current/former set staples that already don’t generate any excitement.
I'm gonna fix their Hellfest set list Original: For The Workforce Drowning Cross Out The Eyes Signals over the air Standing on the edge of summer Jet Black New Year This Song Brought to You By a Falling Bomb Fast To The End Application for Release from the dream Running From The Rain Paris In Flames Understanding In A Car Crash War All The Time Improved: Resuscitation of a Dead Man Signals over the air Sparks Against The Sun Sugar in the Sacrament Autumn Leaves Revisited Past and Future Ruins Application for Release from the dream Running From The Rain Beyond The Visible Spectrum Understanding In A Car Crash Turnpike Divides You Were The Cancer There we go. Now that's a show! What Thursday fan would be disappointed? 12 songs is pretty hard to work with for 6 albums and obviously there's no room for b-sides. I left understanding because I can't really see them playing a show without that even I'd cut it for something else.
Nah you gotta still let em play WATT every night Agree that it’s baffling you’d have Turnpike Divides in your catalog and not play it as one of the last songs every set tho. Got in Chicago 2017 tho and I’ll always be grateful (it was because I wore my no dev shirt)
I will never forget seeing them in January 2022 when they busted out Running from the Rain and Autumn Leaves Revisited in Philly
