Shorts came today. I don’t know if all my lower body clothing being stretchy nowadays has ruined me or I’ve just gained a shitload of weight but I do not foresee being able to wear these without blowing out the entire crotch. Things have absolutely NO give.
That's the most encouraging I've heard Geoff talk about new Thursday since they reunited. It's still not super encouraging but I'll certainly take it. I agree that having Tucker and Tim feeling inspired with LS Dunes should be good news for Thursday. Tim seemed to dropout from music for a while and I think when it comes to recording if it's not all 5 of them they're not going to do it. Andrew seems to be completely out of the picture at this point. And United Nations - yes please!
Yeah it's legit good. Like I got it to support him and knew I would enjoy it because of my connection to the band but it's actually great. With that being said I had like 30 pages left and forgot it on the train and now it's sold out everywhere so that suuuucks.
Just started. Really enjoying the book so far. Mirroring what others said, did not expect it to be quite this good, was really just picking it up as a fan of Thursday but Geoff has some serious talent.
Finished the book really fast, couldn’t put it down. Gets really heavy and trippy but it’s never to the point where you can’t understand what’s going on. Gonna need more from the man, he’s way too good of a writer for this to be his only one.
Anyone know if he's selling the book at shows? Debating ordering it online vs waiting until I see them next month.
I’m about halfway done with the book and his depiction in the first part of being in the throes of heroin addiction is so spot on it almost hurt to read as though it was a story I had written about myself at some point. The ibogaine trip is getting fucking wild tho
Agreed. Really spectacular debut from him and I hope he writes more. this has also caused me to revisit Thursday, and while I’ve always thought they were great, I now think they’re maybe my second favorite emo/post hardcore band behind ATDI
earlier today, someone shared a photo of Thursday's demo tape in a facebook group. very cool to see that.
I don’t keep up with these guys the last few years, are they basically just a touring band at this point?
Saw them in Ardmore of all places last week. Amazing show. I didn’t realize Tim wasn’t playing with them now either.
I don't have all of the details, but my understanding is that the band entity is still working through paying down a lot of debt and it would be difficult for them to release new music and own/control that process. This is why you see them doing a lot of anniversary runs for Full Collapse, releasing vinyl in weird ways, and playing as many shows as they can. Aside from the band financials (or lack thereof), each member have other lives and family outside of the band. I think new music will still happen eventually, but there are some different factors at play for them. I have not outright asked, but I think certain festivals like Riot Fest and different bands have been booking them partly to help their situation.
Not sure where you're getting that from. Everytime Geoff has been asked about new music he's said the same thing: it's been hard getting them all together and whenever they've tried to write stuff but none of it is up the the standards they want to put out but they're not ruling out new music in the future. They enjoy playing shows. Seems a bit insulting to suggest festivals are booking them out of some sort of charity. They're legends in the scene and still pull crowds and put on a fantastic show.
Saw them at California is for Lover a couple weeks back with Bayside, Thrice, FSF, Emery, Atreyu, Touche, Alkaline Trio, Hawthorne Heights, and Norma Jean and they by far had the best set of the day.
I follow the band pretty closely and have never heard anything about repaying debt. What debt would they even be in? They haven’t released an album in 12 years.
Geoff himself is in some financial trouble from the collect records stuff or at least was not sure if he still is but I doubt he would ever put that burden on the band as a whole
