Also, it's all about ACBTLD and ND for me, though I love all five albums last Waiting. There's a lot to love across every Thursday release.
Absolutely shocked by the lack of love for Full Collapse! I love all their albums, but I'll always hold onto my love for that record in a very special way. It still kicks me in the teeth every time I hear it (as does WATT). Love everything they've done tbh. I was listening to Waiting today and felt just blown away by the raw energy and the beautiful, moving lyrics. To think they were only about 19 when they wrote that. I go back to the early albums a lot. From their later era work, Autumn Leaves, The Lovesong Writer, As He Climbed The Dark Mountain, Last Call and Turnpike Divides are some of my highlights. I feel so privileged that they are back. Their energy and authenticity on and off stage is unparalleled in my view. Travelling to the USA to go to Wrecking Ball this summer will be one of the highlights of my life haha. None of my friends particularly like them, but that's always made seeing them live even more special. Being surrounded by that same love and passion that only exists in that small space of time is magic. I'm a student, i shouldn't be going on such a mad, expensive trip to see a band but as soon as they announced their breakup I always said to myself "If Thursday ever play another show, I'll be there". I will be there. I will savour every moment. I first discovered them when some random kid sent me 'Jet Black New Year" over MSN messenger in 2004. They were my first gig in 2005. They've been my favourite band for 12 years now and they've opened me up to all the music I listen to today. Thank you, Thursday.
The more ambient songs they do are always my favorites, if they do more music I hope they double up on the atmosphere and electronics from ND
Geoffs songwriting was just so ahead of its time. So many brilliant ideas. Like using an equation of a plane crashing as a metaphor for a relationship going sour, or the image of something beautiful like Paris being set on fire as a metaphor for LGBTQ+ rights, or writing a song about having friends in the military and how conflicted you can feel about that situation, even just something as simple as hating your 9 to 5 job and the frustration that comes with feeling like youre in an endless cycle. God damn. What a fucking band this was.
I need to see them live again cause I didn't appreciate them enough before. They were always a fave and I saw them a handful of times and they've always been my fave live band, but I think I was like woo this is loud and catchy and fun but didn't look much beyond it. As I've gotten older I relate to the lyrics and appreciate everything they're doing so much more and I want to shake younger me and tell me to get with it lol
I think my favorites will always be Division St., Turnpike Divides and For the Workforce, Drowning. WAtT is a fucking masterpiece
Three songs into No Devolucion and I am just so mad at myself that it took me this long. This is something else.
Oh, man, they're playing in such a deep pocket in "Sparks Against the Sun." This song is fucking epic.
yup. No Devo is mindblowing Let me know how high you jump when the drums come in during "Gun In The First Act"
Geoff's vocals are so unlike anything I've ever heard. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is that makes them so unique, but it's something.
And like, i'm going to drum along to these guys like nobody's fucking business. And @CoffeeEyes17 A City by the Light Divided is next up guys, don't worry.
