the only thing unexpected is that they're pushing this cash grab way further into the year than i had hoped beginning to feel like they won't do shows other than these album shows again
I wouldn't call it a cash grab they were pretty clear they were doing 20th anniversary stuff this year only, if it was a cash grab I think the venues would be a bit bigger
Definitely eyeing the WATT date. Wonder why they’re not doing starland. Anyone have experience at that venue? How is it?
I wish they’d perform someplace other than New York and New Jersey, my fuck. Makes sense they would do it there but still.
They definitely could've played bigger venues if it was a cash grab. They were completely up front about wanting to do something special for their 20th anniversary
Not gonna lie I'm gonna be a little bitch and say I'm a bit tight that the Brooklyn shows are all the way at the end of December, not a fan of winter shows. Still gonna go obviously. Also I'm shocked they're not doing Jersey instead but that actually helps me out more, much easier for me to get to NYC than Jersey.
Yeah I go to Jersey lots and it's always easy, it's just the NYC part that I imagine has wack tolls and traffic and whatever. I think I've only driven myself into the city once and that was manhattan
Just give yourself an hour or hour and a half extra since traffic can be unpredictable and you'll be good, you could get lucky and have no traffic at all if you get in at the right time. when I went up there a year ago I got into the city around rush hour and it took forever to get to the venue
it's okay, not great. Looks like I'm going to the FC show. Maybe WATT. Decent hotels are crazy expensive in Brooklyn though. Also in regards to the cash grab conversation--Geoff needs money. What Shkreli did really fucked him. If you love Thursday and you love Geoff Rickly, don't look at this in such a negative light. If they keep playing shows, I'm gonna keep going.
It reminds me of how Michael from passion pit said his last tour was to pay for medical treatment for his mental health, I went so I could support him because he really needed the money and the show was incredible anyway
Very good point. The last time I talked to Geoff, he made it seem like things were really in a rough spot for him. I think he's too proud to come out and talk extensively about it in public, but he said he was in quite a bit of debt from his label closing and the promised funding from pharma boy falling through and all of the responsibility of that landing on him. I feel bad for him as he's genuinely one of the nicest people I've spoken with in the music industry. It made me wish I could just write a big check for him and help him get past it all. All of this said, I don't think it's a cash grab, but I know he needs support and I'm gonna give it to him and the rest of the band.
Yeah I figured that was the case and I'll be the first to support him and the rest of the band any chance I get, just as I've been doing for the last 12 years. Even if they don't continue on in any form I'll be buying Thursday merch til I die
Yeah chances are I'd probably go way earlier in the day just to hang since this is a nice excuse to go to Brooklyn. But having these go up so far in advance are tricky for me, idk what i'll be doing in 9 months
Also even though I've seen more songs from WATT live, I'm not even considering the FC show. I'd assume FC show would sell out quicker, but am I wrong?
Yeah that's why idk if I'll be going I usually go back home for the holidays so I may not even be in the area
