lol at least Thursday has enough songs to make a version of that happen They should do like the national and pick a song analogous to sorrow and play it for hours just bc they can ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I would like to speculate that Geoff’s ideas / aspirations exceed the effort that some of the other members are willing to put out.
lol i also realized they said "we haven't played this song in a really long time" before how long is the night but they played that at the holiday show i saw last year lol
Also re: the wrecking ball setlists, they did omit some of the hits to play some stuff from Common Existence and a bit more from City if I recall from seeing the setlist float around back then. That was the smaller show tho and idk how many songs the lesser played ones constituted
they also didn't play a single no devo song at those shows though three city songs, less WATT weirdly enough
This is true, although Turnpike Divides was planned for the actual wrecking ball show but they cut it due to going over their time and we got understanding instead. They played sugar in the sacrament at that aftershow and I was so bummed I wasn't there for it
i feel better about missing the show given the setlist length and choices but it's always a big bummer to miss em, especially at this point in their careers. and with pianos...
pianos were the best i've ever seen them last night, and pup had a bigger crowd than thursday tbh. or at least it was close. the pit was crazier for them.
i remember reading in their thread that they didn't play a new song but how was the setlist otherwise? crowd reaction?
for pianos? not much reaction, which was weird because it was a hometown show for them. most honestly most hometown peeps are more into their earlier skramz stuff (a few people sort of went off for i'll be damned) and the crowd was split between old thursday fans and young pup fans that there really wasn't a spot for pianos in the first place
oh wow. not surprised people prefer the early stuff but i wouldve at least expected them to beat out pup. very interesting.
I got there a little late and saw a group of younger fans leaving the venue with Pup merch. I wouldn't have expected folks to show up for their opening set and then leave. I was surprised that the crowd for Thursday's set was relatively small, but I chalked that up to the holidays.
the pup pit was just so wild and crazy. there were a lot of people solely there for them and was very obvious who it was too
The last time I saw Thursday before the break (2009) and when I saw them after the reunion (last spring) both times it was kinda awkward cause many people were clearly there for the opening acts and not Thursday. Bums me out cause Thursday is prob my all time fave act to see live. Too underappreciated!
Even on the most recent US tour with Basement/Touche, a large amount of people left after Touche finished. Bummed me out a lot.
Not sure if you were active in any of the conversations during their Spring tour earlier this year but the common theme city to city was they weren’t drawing many people. I went to the Cleveland date and House of Blues was probably 30% full and a good number of people left before Thursday even went on, which is a shame. I just don’t think they draw much of a crowd anymore, unfortunately.
It's so weird, I feel like a band like Touche Amore and even PUP should have a lot of crossover appeal. I don't think contemporaries like Taking Back Sunday/Thrice have this issue? Maybe because Thursday haven't brought anything new out?
Yes they need to release new music. Would change everything, especially if it had an old school Thursday vibe to it.
I wasn't aware of that. I saw them in Silver Spring on that tour and the venue was pretty full from what I remember. That's too bad. I agree a new album would probably make a big difference, their set seems to be getting a bit stale.
