I've seen Thursday three times since they've been back together and they've blown me away every time. @Ken you should be very, very excited
This will be my 3rd time in about 6 months. I'm ready haha. 3 hours until doors. I wonder if they'll say anything interesting, given this is their last scheduled show.
Definitely provide an update if they do. Geoff spoke a fair amount on the weekend, but future plans for the band didn't come up.
Didn't Spin Magazine just have a pretty in depth interview with Geoff? I'm pretty sure he said there were no plans for an upcoming album or anything and didn't really know what the future holds and that it was more of a 'maybe we'll make more music, maybe we're done' kind of thing.
Eh I take those kinds of statements with a grain of salt. If they're making music but don't wanna get people's expectations up they're gonna play off like nothing's happening. Thrice was doing the same thing like "oh we're just playing shows right now with no other plans" right up until they announced a fully finished album pretty much
I feel like new Thursday would be in the vein of their stuff circa full collapse and war all the time just bc Geoff said he missed that stuff
I agree, especially since they've been playing mostly their heavier stuff. Not that I would expect them to retread an album, but I would think it'd lean more to that end of their sound
It's strange because I feel like they tightened up most, if not all, of the issues I had with those albums on Common Existence. I guess the argument could be made that CE is more aggressive than it is heavy but feel like that's splitting hairs. Either way, I'd be down since Thursday has an unimpeachable discog
I wasn't lucky enough to get it on the first leg of it but at least I got Turnpike Divides. That's my consolation for every Thursday song I wanna see but might not get to
CE feels like another stab at WATT but also integrating ACBTLD and I think it succeeded with flying colors. If they were to release another LP id really really like for them to either push ND further and maybe integrate some of the No Devotion electronic textures OR go super heavy, like WATT mixed with some UN.
If they went a lighter route I'd be really happy with an album full of metal heart-type songs. Easily my fav off ND.
Yeah that was great last night. What a show. Geoff said at first that this was their last US tour, almost made it sound like Europe might be an option soon or something. Towards the end he made it sound like it was possibly their last show ever. They all had too much fun IMO to call it quits now. The place was packed last night, but the crowd sucked. That's typical for Central PA.
Exactly, they really do seem to be having a lot of fun! Which might reinforce that this past year is the right schedule for them, to be a touring band for shorter periods when it suits them...I'd be cool with that! But I'd add, with some of their political/social messages, I can't help but think they feel a sense of purpose right now too. I wouldn't be surprised one way or the other if they were did release more music, but I'm not counting on it the same way I knew Thrice would inevitably release more.
I think I'd be pretty surprised if they released any new music, to be honest. Geoff repeatedly for about a year now has mentioned how they didn't have anything in the works and people all over this site who went to the tour repeatedly discussed how dead a lot of these shows were (in the Spring). I can only speak for the Cleveland show in April, but it was not well attended whatsoever and I'm sure that took a toll on the band that their reunion tour did not sell a lot of tickets. Cannot be a good sign. Also, weren't they using a lot of back-up guys for the Spring tour? Didn't certain members not play all the shows? That doesn't sound promising either. I don't know, I'd love for them to make new music, but all the signs are pointing toward unlikely.
