I'm curious why you think the writing did Sentry "dirty".

it just doesn’t capture the battle within bob from the light and the dark when it only comes out when he is effectively “killed”

i’m hopeful it’ll be delved into deeper in the avengers movies (i could see doom trying to exploit the void or something like that) but as it stood it just seemed like another kinda nameless faceless marvel cgi villain/mcguffin to dive into bob’s trauma. also would have liked more than one scene of actual sentry but whatever, we’ll get more eventually

In the post-credits he says he doesn't want to use his Sentry powers because it risks the Void, so I don't think it's as cut and dried as Bob dying being what unlocks the Void. I think it just becomes easier for the Void to take over immediately when Bob is dead, which is kind of interesting because it kind of implies Bob can't die if the Void keeps bringing him back to life.

Also, Bob says he has good days and bad days and I believe we're supposed to take from this that the Void represents his bad days.

yeah that’s fair. it almost seemed to imply the void was always part of him back to childhood too and the experimentation only brought the sentry out. idk. it’s just such a rich dynamic for the two sides of bob in the comics, i kinda wanted it fleshed out a bit more. i get you can only do so much in a two hours and change movie but it felt a little yada yada’d because the filmmakers had other things on their mind. which is fine. i just hope we get more of it in the future

One of the screenwriters said they had the structure of the movie before they landed on the Sentry in that role. I think he said they at one point considered, like, John Walker being turned into a monster, lol, and needing talked down.

With that in mind, I’m glad the Sentry stuff worked as well as it did. And with that side being well received broadly, even without this movie being a hit, I think they’ll take advantage of that new narrative thread. (Hopefully in something good!)

Yeah, we’ll definitely get a Thunderbolts/New Avengers 2 after the critical reception of this, regardless of what the box office does.

Alright I'm way behind on the MCU and the talk around this movie has me a little hyped so I gotta catch up. Do you guys think this list is a good breakdown of what is must watch?
Reddit - The heart of the internet

According to this list, the must watches I need (maybe not necessarily for this movie but just to be caught up in general) are Loki Seasons 2, Agatha All Along, Ms. Marvel, Secret Invasion, The Marvels, Daredevil: Reborn Seasons 1 and 2, Captain America Brave NEw World, and Ironheart

Still haven't watched Moonknight or Deadpool and Wolverine but those aren't needed it says. Didn't watch Echo or She-Hulk either

Loki, Daredevil (only S1 is out), Ms. Marvel, Agatha, and Brave New World are probably the only ones you should watch, the rest you can read the synopsis. Iron heart isn’t out until later this year I think

What's the last thing you watched post End Game?

I watched all the movies that have come out since then except for The Marvels and Brave New World, and I missed the shows I listed there in the post (though it seems some haven't come out yet). I did watch S1 of Loki, WandaVision, Falcon and Winter Soldier and Hawkeye. Wanted to watch Moonkight because it was hyped but just never got around to it, same with Agatha All Along and Loki Season 2.

Oh, that means the last thing I watched, IIRC, was Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. I believe. Whatever came out last between that and Black Panther 2 and Antman 3 is the last one I watched I'm pretty sure.

Edit-Nope, I lied, the last one to come out chronologically was GOTG3 which I just watched this summer or fall on DIsney+

Loki S2 is great, I'd prioritize that.

Obviously will want to watch Miss Marvel before watching Marvels.

    Secret Invasion was very bad.

Daredevil is great, but has little-to-no connection to any other MCU stuff as of now.

Brave New World is a sequel to Hulk and Capt & the Winter Soldier, but not a very good movie. I think it's worth watching for MCU continuity though.

Yeah, Secret Invasion is wholly unnecessary. If there’s anything that is never referenced again, it’s this one.

I personally would never watch a thing for the sake of “MCU continuity.”

I’ll watch a bad movie that’s silly fun, or that’s unsuccessful in interesting ways. But as homework for something else? No thank you, imo. If a movie using elements from bad movies is good enough, it’ll give me everything I need to know from the bad ones.

  22. Don't listen to them, Ms Marvel, She-Hulk, and Agatha All Along are all great. Always prioritize women-centered Marvel projects
