This was good. Surprisingly small and tight in a way? Didn’t reinvent the wheel, but only a fool would’ve expected that, lol; just a solid, effective Marvel movie. Easily in the top 5 most enjoyable “MCU” experiences since 2019. Florence Pugh’s Yelena was, of course, the highlight. Love her so much. But, the whole team and its internal dynamics was fun. Classic enemies-to-besties arc, executed with a lot of charm. And, some fairly beautiful people! Flo of course, but also, this is the most attractive Bucky has ever been in one of these (except in that credits scene). And, the woman from Drive Away Dykes! And, shit, US Agent was as handsome as a Republican-coded character can possibly be. Also. In addition to being about mental health & the Void & finding hope in people. It was also about how the government is stupid, which, yeah. Too bad this team’s likely getting wrecked to shit in the first act of Doomsday, lol.
I mean, nearly everyone made it out of Infinity War and Endgame alive if not unscathed, so I don't believe for a minute that the team is going to be "wrecked". If anything the film will partially be about the New Avengers and what I assume are the Mighty Avengers learning to work together. Really tired of "killing people" being used as a substitute for better writing.
Some thoughts: - Noticeably a lot less green scren and smoother CGI here right? - Sentry / Void looked sick up in the sky - David Harbour is a scene stealer. So hilarious - Florence Pugh could do whatever she wanted with me - Sebastian Stan on a motorcycle could probably also do whatever he wanted with me Best MCU in years. Just when I thought I was out...
With the sheer number of characters, I think it’s a given (call it a lack of creativity or just streamlining) that a handful will be sidelined for a large portion of Secret Wars. There are ways to reduce the number of characters without killing them off, but I think focusing on a small core group in Secret Wars is practically guaranteed. And I would bet on Bob and Yelena being picked for the core Secret Wars group.
Sorry boys but this shit was fire. Best MCU film I’ve seen in a long long time. Within 5 minutes, I could tell this was legit and it showcased what was missing from Brave New World and all the previous movies of the last few years feel.
Lol but it's still called Thunderbolts if you try to get tickets from Regal. This just seems like it'll cause confusion for people who aren't necessarily huge Marvel fans
