I loovvee Red Sky. The only song I'd maybe place it above in that stretch from Earth to Stand is Alantic though.
Yea my favorite track on vhiessu is always changing... i think I need to give the whole record a spin soon, I’ve been listening to alchemy and onward a lot
"Atlantic" is far and away the most beautiful song on Vheissu, and my second favorite on it. (My number one will always be "For Miles")
"Of Dust and Nations" is the best track on Vheissu, but who am I kidding almost every track on Vheissu is great.
I remember Jason’s old review of Vheissu described it as cinematic, and I think that’s an accurate description. I love that album because it feels like a ride every time I listen to it.
Not sure if this has been posted, but Amazon has Illusion of Safety vinyl up for less than $10 ($10.98 after taxes for me, but I shouldn't argue semantics): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00005YDKS/?tag=absolutepunk-20 Also pre-ordered the Alchemy Index boxset on Thrice's website. It seems odd that this is still up, but I've been out of the loop on internet things for the past few days. Are they just doing a massive pre-order still or is there a repress up for pre-order already?
The merch company totally botched the roll out at 10am PST and put it up like 6 hours before (or maybe even midnight?). All the East Coast/Central peeps caught wind and bought all the copies well before 10am PST rolled around. In response, they're doing another pressing of the same product through Monday for everyone who lost out when the merch company botched it. The second round (which you ordered) won't ship for another couple months though.
I grew to love Music Box even more after I found out the lyrics were inspired by the film For All Mankind.
Red Sky, Of Dust and Nations, and Atlantic are my favorites on that record. Very winter-y and yes, cinematic and epic are perfect to describe it. I'm leaning towards Beggars as my favorite more these days but Vheissu is sooo close.
Relistening to Vheissu followed by the Red Sky EP. It really amazes me that they were able to make this big of a shift in sound following Artist. I wasn't following the band at the time, but was there any sort of backlash from the fanbase from this shift?
I was pretty negative about Vheissu when it first released, didn't expect that shift coming from the Artist in the Ambulance, but I was an idiot and the more I dove into it, the more I came to absolutely adore it.
I got Vheissu when I was 13 or 14 and immediately loved it, but the love has deepened over time. I was probably 13 when I blind bought Alchemy 1 and was blown away which was my first thrice experience
In the middle of Water right now. Don't think I ever gave a serious listen to TAI in full before. Trying to see if I can squeeze a full-listen before bed while finishing an art history term paper.
