Can't wait for that show. The new HOB is going to be so much better than the Downtown Disney one. A much bigger capacity as well.
I just wish Thrice would choose different support. I get that they like O Brother, La Dispute and Manchester but every tour seems to have one of them involved lol. Mix it up a bit.
I can understand why they tour with those bands a lot. At this point in their lives, I imagine that touring needs to be as easy as possible, so going on tour with their friends probably makes the whole experience much more enjoyable.
Damn. If this is true then Thrice is going in the opposite direction of what I was hoping for. I'd love to hear them expand the sound they had on the Water and Air EPs. I love the dark, omnious feeling of Water and the soaring guitars of Air. A mix between the two would make my ears melt. I thought Salt and Shadow was the highlight of TBEITN and it could easily have appeared on Water. Even if the next album is too heavy for me, I won't hold it against them. They were my favorite band for so long that I'll always give them the benefit of the doubt.
Ed pushing for heavier is interesting, since Riley seems to be pretty into creating the ambient/synthy aspect of their sound. thinking about that, this just occurred to me: ed-Fire riley-Water teppei-Air dustin-Earth
Haha, never thought of it that way but it makes complete sense. Another Alchemy style album would be amazing. This might be fun, if they had released the whole Alchemy Index as one standard 11 song album, which songs would you have put on it?
A little fire heavy, but they are some of their best songs. A decent mix that might flow together pretty well. In my head it does.... I think the response to this album would have been pretty good. 01. Firebreather 02. The Messenger 03. The Earth Isn't Humming 04. Digital Sea 05. Burn the Fleet 06. Broken Lungs 07. Open Water 08. Come All You Weary 09. Daedalus 10. The Arsonist 11. Child of Dust
Though it's fun to guess and ponder, it's tough to say because if you follow Riley on his blog he posts about heavy albums all the time. There's no doubt in my mind he loves the Fire stuff as much as the Water stuff
I'm sure they all like heavy stuff. I think Death From Above and Whistleblower showed that. Just not sure how much Dustin wants to mess with voice. I like how band is balanced.
oh i think they all enjoy all the aspects, just from what we've heard in Dustin's solo stuff and the ambient stuff Riley makes on his own, and ed's comments about making a heavier album, it seems to fit like this.
Not only that but he still rocks out and gets all into heavy songs live. I like balanced too, so they should balance all this soft stuff with another Messenger style song
Thrice is just one of those bands that has yet to fail at shifting their style, in my opinion. I think there's hardly a style they couldn't pull off, or fall back on, for a new record
Random Thrice trivia - I finally saw the episode of Wife Swap they were on randomly during a marathon of the show lol. It was only for about 10 seconds or so but it was funny to see and was from probably warped 2003 or 2004.
Listened to Vheissu multiple times this weekend. Super healing for everything going on in the world right now. Especially "The Earth Will Shake".
I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but Air is by far my favourite volume off The Alchemy Index, and probably my favourite collection of songs by Thrice in general.
I wouldn't say unpopular, because Air has two of their best songs (Daedalus and Broken Lungs) but for my money, Fire and Earth are hard to beat and are my top two.
