It might be their worst song.

I love M/m but if I were to cut a song, that would definitely be Listen Though Me. It kinda just lacks the groove of the rest of the album.

  6. Outside of a few standouts, I still don't care for that album. They bounced back with TBEITBN

Listen Through Me used to be my favorite from that album. Then I deconstructed and finally understood why so many disliked the album as a whole, but especially that song.

I think West is great, it just suffers slightly in comparison to East.

East has a lot of 10/10s for me - color of the sky, summer set fire, still life, dandelion wine; I love those to death. And the rest are very high as well.
West tracks for me are not scoring quite as high even though I'm enjoying all of them. After East the experimentation/diversity is a little more normalized for me which also affects expectations.

I think the highest point is indeed the falsettos and odd time signatures in the first half of Vesper Light.

My favorite continues to be Holding On because it really does fill for me an emotional slot that was still free in their music, fast paced hot water music hope punk.
Also Albatross is the earworm for me so far, it comes back to my mind all the time.

Some parts remind me of other songs (distant suns reminds me of color of the sky, vesper 2nd half reminds me of treading paper) but I) that's fine, II) it's unavoidable at this stage of their discography and III) in many cases may be intentional.

Also fully agree, exactly what I'd do. Although I like the build up to the chorus a lot.

Just thinking about Cataracts puts me in a better mood.
