What a fucking banger. The full thing recalls so many different eras yet sounds new for them. Even though the dance-y beat teased in the snippet was already a curveball, I can't say I was expecting the double bass ending either. Fire EP vibes (The Flame Deluge) on the second half, we're so back
Tracklist with song lengths: 1. Blackout (3:09) 2. Gnash (2:43) 3. Albatross (4:30) 4. Undertow (4:10) 5. Holding On (3:36) 6. Dusk (1:25) 7. The Dark Glow (4:57) 8. Crooked Shadows (2:40) 9. Distant Suns (3:53) 10. Vesper Light (5:46) 11. Unitive/West (6:43)
was on the fence about seeing them this run for some reason but this song coupled with that tour exclusive variant has changed my mind lol
If the deluxe version doesn't include extra songs, I wonder if they'll start including commentary in the liner notes again. Really missed that the past few records.
this is pretty filthy. not my favorite version of Thrice (and quite an interesting choice for a lead single), but I have no doubt this album will rip. and this song will go hard live.
Yes! The lyrics are also very reminiscent of that song: "I'm the heavy hammer that you seize to make something new /but all you can do is break" seems to recall the fire's perspective: "I feel that I was meant for something more / my curse, this awful power to unmake." Chills. The song is so sick. The guys are in the pocket in a big way.
Album will be out a week earlier than I expected, for which I'm thrilled. Based on the tracklist, it looks like they'll be really leaning into the theme, even more than on East, which is fun. As I figured, the last track is "Unitive/West". I suspect that'll tie into "Unitive/East" somehow, sort of like how the sonnets shared their closing notes. It is also cool that side A looks to be ending with an interlude a la "Seneca".
