This is a damn fine cup of coffee.

Pines is one of their greatest songs of all time, but was it actually a single? The video came out a year after the record released, but I don't think it ever truly qualified as a single. I'm referring more to the songs that lead a pre-release promotional cycle. I'm still fond of Scavengers, though. I can't say the same for The Grey.

Beyond the pines is definitely one of their best songs if every palms song was close to being as good i'd be their best album one of my favorite lyrics by dustin and honestly I have no idea if it is considered a single all I know is that video has a ton of views on youtube, I also don't care for the grey it almost feels like a worse version of black honey to me

@Elder Lightning haha but I can totally see someone in their early 20s who only listens to the radio only knowing that song they would have been too young when thrice was on mtv back in 2003- 2005

I don't remember the last time I even listened to the radio. Personally I hope thrice gets the deftones treatment and blows up in popularity with the next generation.

I'm fairly certain she's roughly the same age as me (late 30s)

Black Honey got a lot of play on the butt rock stations, so I'm assuming that's how she knows them.

Riley was asked on a podcast about the sound of the new record, and he basically said that they're pushing the boundaries of what they can get away with. He didn't qualify it with any frame of reference.

I love hearing that they are pushing boundaries hopefully this 4 year gap gave them plenty of time to cook up something amazing I hope the next one isn't in half a decade lol

Same! Your post reminded me of them. I played the heck out of some of those, though. Pretty great stuff.

    Fight the long defeat.

All the more reason to re-record Vheissu, when they get the time. It's a gem as it is, but with their production chops and Dustin's matured voice, man.

  18. I'm sure there are maybe technical things that could be improved, but I'm pretty convinced that album is exactly what it should be

    Fight the long defeat.

Honestly, I agree, and I know it's treasured around here (and by me). But I recall Dustin commenting that he doesn't really love his vocals on the original, and it would be a treat to hear them revisit it, if they could bring the same ethos that guided them with re-recording Artist.

I've also heard them say that because it's generally considered their crowning achievement, they don't want to mess with it. I know Dustin doesn't like his voice until Alchemy, but he really did make major strides on Vheissu.

I only started noticing what Dustin was talking about when he mentioned it I used to think Vheissu was when he became a great singer, I do love how much he experimented with his voice during the alchemy index and all the awesome harmonies he did, I feel like lately he's been messing with his lower range and using some of his the national, and tom waits influences and before I could see his thom yorke influences come out more with the falsetto stuff

I absolutely adore the production of Vheissu. Its one of the best sounding albums in "the scene". and definitely the best sounding Thrice record. I dont think we need a re-record of it

We probably don't need it but after listening to vheissu a million times I would absolutely love a fresh take and hearing that bluesy belting out from dustin during the earth will shake that is missing from the studio version, and the cool second guitar harmony they add to the outro to of dust and nations with teppei tapping part
