I was having this conversation with myself a couple of weeks ago and I agree that those bonus tracks were soooo good on Horizons but with that said it is still my favorite post reunion album and one of their stronger records overall.
Deeper Wells was so good. Palms has its moments but it's definitely the weakest of the post-hiatus records.
It's great but TOO ahead of its time. Should have been on Desert Dreaming as another West-themed ballad
I wish I felt about horizons east as a lot of fans do about it being a top thrice album, it was definitely a step up from palms though. From the illusion of safety to beggars was where I think their peak was with to be everwhere is to be nowhere being an amazing comeback
The aluminum lining is that it didn't take off and become the next "Black Honey." I was fairly worried that it was going to capture the hearts and minds of the WWE audience. (No offense.)
Oh shit that reminds me that there is a shit ton of people that only know thrice as the band that plays black honey at the time I had no idea how big that song was
I still love it. It's one of their only full-fledged singles that I regularly come back to and enjoy.
I recently saw a man on the street type video where someone was asking younger folks (mostly dudes) to name three songs based on their band shirt and it was SHOCKING to me when a kid said "Black Honey" first for Thrice.
i think their post-hiatus albums are all awesome. tbeitbn actually started my love for the band even though i saw them way back when opening for the used. probably taita era but didn’t click until my late twenties.
Pines is one of their greatest songs of all time, but was it actually a single? The video came out a year after the record released, but I don't think it ever truly qualified as a single. I'm referring more to the songs that lead a pre-release promotional cycle. I'm still fond of Scavengers, though. I can't say the same for The Grey.
Beyond the pines is definitely one of their best songs if every palms song was close to being as good i'd be their best album one of my favorite lyrics by dustin and honestly I have no idea if it is considered a single all I know is that video has a ton of views on youtube, I also don't care for the grey it almost feels like a worse version of black honey to me
@Elder Lightning haha but I can totally see someone in their early 20s who only listens to the radio only knowing that song they would have been too young when thrice was on mtv back in 2003- 2005
I don't remember the last time I even listened to the radio. Personally I hope thrice gets the deftones treatment and blows up in popularity with the next generation.
I'm fairly certain she's roughly the same age as me (late 30s) Black Honey got a lot of play on the butt rock stations, so I'm assuming that's how she knows them.
Riley was asked on a podcast about the sound of the new record, and he basically said that they're pushing the boundaries of what they can get away with. He didn't qualify it with any frame of reference.
