Top one is great on its own but doesn’t compare to the third (glad I now have a shirt with that on it) and the middle is my favorite Thrice logo—I’ve thought of getting it tattooed many times—so I can’t complain about any of them.
Is the alchemy index considered having the best artwork? Even though it's kind of pricey Iwould love to buy the vinyl at some point.
I still love how the first one displays what I see in my head during the mellowest parts of the record but yeah the third/original cover is so iconic.
I love the third one, but I didn't know about it till later. The first one is mind-melded to the album for me. It invokes solitude and calm to me—like the visual answer to "All the World is Mad" and those themes.
They shared the full TAITA set from Seattle on The Alliance, and this video is taken from that, but the full set should be up on this channel soon enough:
I have this one, it's swo great and absolutely at the top of my favorite vinyl. The whole package is amazing.
From the images i've seen online it looks absolutely amazing, they really put so much into that whole project.
I'll always be thankful to Absolutepunk.net for helping me rediscover Thrice, I remember liking songs like Stare at the sun, and All that's left when they came out on mtv. I even had the song The artist in the ambulance on some punk mix tape I made but really didn't get more into their stuff at the time. By 2007, I was really into post rock and bands like Radiohead, and The beatles. One day I went on Absolutepunk.net to check the music news, and there was a post I think it was the first album teaser video for The alchemy index. I heard the first few notes of Silver Wings and Dustin's amazing vocals and I was instantly floored. I couldn't believe this was the same band I used to casually like. We both had similar influences, and honestly they did what I would have loved to do with my own music at the time if I had the skill to pull it off lol, they took the best parts of a lot of my favorite bands and made it into their own thing.
They really are, last year I downloaded the app Moises to try to experience the whole thing instrumentally. I think Dustin said the alchemy index is the first project where he finally likes his vocals and I can tell he tried pushing them in such a broad way of directions, I think Broken lungs has his highest note on a Thrice song. I would be hyped if they went and did another gorgeous and ambient project.
Me and another dude at work open card booster packs when we feel a little whimsical. (we work at a Best Buy so we sell them). I'll buy a pack of Pokemon cards(throwing it back to 1999) and he'll buy one of those or baseball/sports cards. There's a new Topps "Allen and Ginter" pack that has vintage style cards of old and new players as well as other, random, people. He pulled out a......... "Dustin Kensrue". I was kind of shocked lol. wtf. (just a pic online of the same card). *heres a link to a pic 2024 Topps Allen & Ginter Dustin Kensrue #284 | eBay
Anytime I see someone on here say they don’t like Thrice or don’t want them to tour with another band I KNOW they haven’t seen them live. They are the best live band I’ve ever seen hands down.
I think the only band I've seen that sounded better live than Thrice is NIN, and that's very high praise.
