Ernie Ball big sound series, most likely 3 songs I tried to not hype myself up from the news until I saw more details, it's my fault but i'm disappointed it isn't something more like a full live album session.
You can see the March 2023 date on the clapperboard. Needless to say, the song selection is baffling. If you're going to put money into such production value, it should be for Thrice music, not Beatles covers. (All these songs sound great. though.)
"Originally recorded with Manchester Orchestra" so maybe we are getting some type of Beatles covers collaboration.
Thrice did a split with Manchester Orchestra and O'Brother a while ago that Thrice released their cover of I Want You on
Oh damn, I had no idea, I just remember them releasing that cover but thought it was a stand alone release. Thanks for the clarification! I miss O'brother, such a sick live band.
Finally listening to the Beggars podcast and its heartening to hear that the guys fucking love the original cover art, too. And they were bummed they couldn't get the rights worked out. Dustin suggested just uploading the cover and waiting for a C&D letter lol. Edit: Also, they had to really fight and convince Dustin to keep his vocals “dry” on Beggars. And man, was that the correct call.
Man, I hoped we'd hear a little more commentary from Dustin on the lyrics. Think he did that for Artist during that series, but maybe he feels a little more distance from what he wrote for Beggars these days. Still adore this record. Hard not to call it their best work on any given day.
Honestly, I can see why most of their albums are easy contenders for being their best. They hit gold at most of the things they wanted to do.
In today's episode of the podcast, Riley gave a very cagey response to Tim Very's question about the new record. "We're getting there" and "life got in the way" are the major takeaways. We could've gotten more info had Tim not over-talked and interrupted in a couple spots.
I might wait to listen to the last two new episodes until i'm on the road to Las vegas for When we were young. Sounds like they took a hiatus from doing new music. I'm glad they gave us so many album anniversary shows instead of a full on hiatus like in 2012 meanwhile focusing on their home life. I was kind of hoping for a surprise single before the end of the year.
