I thought they worked with Palmqvist on there two post hiatus albums. Band has self produced some awesome stuff and if they need to save money and self produce that’s understandable. Palmqvist did good though. I loved TBEiTBN. I do feel like Palms wasn’t as strong for my Thrice tastes, but between Palms and Deep Wells EP I was still satisfied. And Beyond the Pines was top notch Thrice. Excited for new music. Need some good distractions right now.
So hyped for the new stuff. Also why the fuck did we never get the live version of a Song for Milly Michaelson recorded? It's so damn good.
I agree and have been saying this for a long while as well. I was hoping they did an alt version recording or something. One of my favourite thrice songs
We panic at the sight of different-colored skin And we've got a plan to justify each mess we're in But I've seen too much (Of this fear and hate) I've had enough (And I'm not afraid) To take a stand, to make it right This has to end . . . There's blood in the street And there's a gun in [his] hand Or there might as well be And I'm sick of it I’m so sick of this shit
I think given the subject matter, the bluntness of the lyrics is kind of the point. No need to hide behind metaphor. Especially poignant today and these last few weeks/months/years
Absolutely, and agreed. I somewhat recall some negative backlash for that song in particular when it came out (not from anyone on this site), and I thought that was ridiculous. Death From Above is another great example from TBEITBN with poignant and powerful lyrics that were pretty straightforward. I haven't listened to that song in a minute, but it has definitely made me choke up on more than one occasion when listening to the lyrics.
Yeah, writing perspective diversity is important and it needs to match the music. Urgent music and straight forward lyrics to get a message across directly works. Over a 10-13 track album that can be a lot sometimes, but I am a fan of Dustin’s writing. Death From Above is such a great modern war/injustice story/lyrics song.
Dustin’s never been very poetic in his political writing, but I really appreciate his voice and perspective (and how outspoken he is outside of music)
Vheissu & Alchemy Index lyrics are dustin at his very best imo which is nuts considering it's about 40 songs in a 3 year span
What’s everyone favourite of the 4 EP’s? I’d vote Air. Gotta say they all bring and element of the band to the forefront and each EP has some great songs. Still think this is the coolest concept project.
I can’t wait to see what they’re doing next. Palms has grown on me a good bit over the last couple of years, but TBEITBN has resonated with me even more. I went through church hurt, and experienced a massive shift in my politics and overall awareness of how broken and inconsistent many of my beliefs were. TBEITBN really nails that feeling of anger and response to uncovering both personal and extrapersonal challenges.
Fire is nice when I’m feeling hyped/angry about something. I love Fire so much, and the other 3 are just tied for 2nd place behind it.
