It's so hard to think about them dropping 12 "set regulars" for a live show, but yeah. A left-field Thrice set would be everything at this point of my fandom.
This tour was supposed to have as "left-field" a set list as they can get without receiving too much fan backlash. I've said this before but Riley was quite clear how they wanted to avoid the songs they've played too much, hence the inclusion of songs like Wood", "Sky" and "Backdraft." Obviously, they can't preclude songs like Earth or Silhouette but many of their staples weren't played this tour. So, I find comfort in that.
Blinded was played a couple times to begin their first M/m tour. They ditched it immediately. I will cry if I ever hear Red Telephone live.
That show was/is insanely special to me. I woke up that morning and took my last final of high school, then got in the car and drove to Nashville. My dog had just died two weeks prior to this, and I'd been in a really deep depression. Then that show happened, got to meet Dustin afterwards. Got in the car and my mom started crying and I was very confused. She told me later it was the first time she said I looked happy in almost a year. It's not my favorite Thrice show I've been to, but it's probably the most important to me.
Blinded is a favorite of mine, I'd love to see it live. Also I'd kill to see them do some form of The Flame Deluge
Playing that song even once would probably put Dustin out of commission the rest of the trip. Same reason Tool doesn't play Ticks & Leeches hardly ever live.
Listened to Lost Continent for the first time in awhile and looked it up live, they pull it off really well. It'd be awesome to see that live followed by For Miles. I think the mood would work they could both flow together with the piano.
Another fun what if: Build a setlist only using the same track number from every album. AI I&II and AI III&IV I count as one 12 track album each. I think all track 2 would make an amazing setlist.... Phoenix Ignition, A Subtle Dagger, Under a Killing Moon, Between the End and Where We Lie, The Messenger, The Sky is Falling, The Weight, Promises, Blood in the Sand. Did I get a little too ridiculous? Probably.....
I listened to a live version of Daedalus today and it reminded me why I skip it every time. Song emotionally kills me based on some shit I've had to deal with. I literally cannot listen to it. This was the first time in probably 5 years that I've tried. :(
So I made a History of Thrice video. I haven't published it yet, I'm not sure if I'm finished with it or not. I skipped a lot songs I wanted to include, but it's already 10 minutes long. Figured you guys would be good letting me know what you think!
Thank you very much! I need to also credit everyone be in the description whose videos I used. I know @suprefan visits this site and I used some of his stuff!
Very cool. I wish a song from Air had made it in though, perhaps in place of The Messenger, but overall really cool. You did a great job working with non-professionally shot videos for the new songs. That was my favorite part.
Finally wrote a review for TBEITBN. I've been wanting to write this for a while, but only now had a reason to...and only now could find the words to 2016’s Midyear Best #3: Thrice
Good job! I think this album is probably--#2 for me and I could see it being my favorite one. It's so good.
Sorry, meant Thrice Albums. I like Vheissu. It used to be the Alchemy Index but I only revisit a handful of songs. Mainly the Air/Earth. I like all the albums, though. I don't listen to anything pre Vheissu that much, though.
Yeah, Alchemy hasn't held up too well for me. The formulaic nature of Fire and Water rubs me wrong and I think Earth is the only EP that holds up really well in terms of ALL 6 songs. Vheissu is kinda my all-time fave simply because I could pinpoint it as the most important album of my own life, but I think M/m, Beggars, and Illusion are better albums. I have occasionally TAITA and Identity Crisis phases but probably frequent Illusion and Major the most often. Still, "Like Moth to Flames" has slowly become one of my favorite songs of all time and, if I were to ever get a tattoo, it would probably be lyrics from "Of Dust and Nations." hahah
My girlfriend got us tickets to see them in OKC on October 1. I'm freaking out. Seeing Brand New and Thrice in the same year isn't something I envisioned happening.
