Come on, guys. This is not a novel concept. I'm sure you've been told how great an older movie is before, and once you finally watched it, you were underwhelmed.

 

Come on Mike. This is not a novel concept. I’m sure you’ve been told how people love universally acclaimed movies that are decade-old staples in a genre.

 

I have spent the last three years watching all the 80s and 90s movies my girlfriend missed when she was young (and older classics), I dunno, the classics and fan favorites still hold up.

 

I can’t think of a single classic or staple being like this that I can remember. I hate new movies people say they like way more than I’ve ever hated or not liked something that’s been a classic for a decade plus. Cause most classics I can see why they’re classics and enjoy it, at the very least.

Have you been underwhelmed by an older film that someone pleaded with you to watch? "Bullitt" was one that I'd been told to watch for years, and it did absolutely nothing for me. However, had I seen those car chases as a kid in the late 60s, I'm sure I'd worship the film as an old man.

It’s ... yikes. Yeah it is an interesting look at their start and all that, but it might as well have a different name. Bands don’t have as many “crappy” first album’s these days. Like if the debut doesn’t take off it at least seems to sound more polished. Back then bands just “forgot” they made their debuts lol.

 

Where do we stand on "Lost in Translation" as it's in my Top 5?

 

Star Wars just doesn’t hold up. Needed the context of the 70s to get it I guess.

Like I said, some hold up; some don't. The original trilogy will always transcend different eras of filmmaking just like 2001.

I know. I just wish it worked on me. It kills me that I can't worship that movie.

I love Blade Runner, though. You'd think I'd like both.

 

You don’t need to worship a movie to appreciate, like, and understand it’s status.

 

The director is garbage, but Chinatown is just amazing.

 

Oh, I certainly admire "Alien." I know its place in cinematic history. I just don't love it, personally.

 

Speaking of Blade Runner, that's another film that leads to divisive reactions among new viewers. I think it's timeless like Star Wars. But, I'm always surprised by what I hear from fresh eyes.
