Remember, the question asked, "Least favorite." It's not like I dislike the song; I'm just indifferent to it now. 'Moving Mountains' rules.
It has some amazing parts as all their songs do. But, that's part of my issue: it feels like a collection of parts and not a song. Dustin's chorus vocal just doesn't work for me in the slightest. That's the main culprit.
You know which song from Earth doesn't get enough love? Their cover of The Earth Isn't Humming. It's so good

It will probably have that effect where someone tells you to watch a great movie from the 70s, only it won't quite click with you given how different filmmaking was then. For example, I put off watching 'Alien' forever, and I just didn't get into it given how dated it is (in every regard). Had I watched it at the time of its release, or close to it, I'm sure it would've blown me away. (For the record, I love 'Aliens.') Similarly, 'Identity Crisis' is a product of its time. If you were in that scene at the time, it was awesome as well as unique from other bands since Thrice always fused many genres together (a trend that continued on Illusion). Will it hold up for somewhat newer fans 18 years later when we're well passed the context in which it was released? Probably not. I'd still give it a spin just to hear the evolution of the band as well as the flashes of what was to come.
I've just recently seriously started listening to it and their are some great tracks on it. Songs like Phoenix Ignition and Ultra Blue get mentioned for good reason but I also really enjoy In Your Hands and To What End. It's a fun listen, especially knowing how much better they get.
Love that one and love the original too. I actually prefer Thrice’s MySpace Transmissions version because it’s got a little more groove: And if any of you have never heard Frodus’ And We Washed Our Weapons In the Sea it’s free on Bandcamp:
My list of favorites: Identity Crisis - "To What End" Illusion - "To Awake And Avenge The Dead" Artist - "Silhouette" Vheissu - "Between The End And Where We Lie" Fire - "Firebreather" Water - "Night Diving" Air - "Broken Lungs" Earth - "Digging My Own Grave" Beggars - "Beggars" M/m - "Promises" TBEITBN - "The Long Defeat"
‘Alien’ is great. That’s a movie that can be deconstructed and looked at as a master of its class not just for what it started, but technique and suspense and so much more. ‘Identity Crisis’ just isn’t a very good album. I think that’s where some of the ribbing comes from in this thread. Some of these opinions or statements feel so out of left field its impossible not to do a double take sometimes.
i have nothing against mike j personally but when i see bad posts i say how i feel about em, no one is exempt not even me! i know i get mad at people who are mean to me too, its a cycle okay
