I personally enjoy M/m better than Beggars. YB, Promises, Call It in The Air, Words in the Water, Blur, Anthology are amongst my all time faves. My one grievance with it is the pacing is somewhat monotonous with no real slow songs like Circles or Atlantic, even Words feels somewhat faster. Also Cataracts is a little weird for my taste but love the outro.
Was really hoping I would get out of work and see the record streaming. Guess I can make it another week.
@Jason Tate said that they'll be doing a stream pre-release. He just didn't specify when. I suspected that we'd get one today, but that's looking less likely.
Wouldn't the 11th track snippet be on Thursday 26th. Maybe they'll do a day early on the pre release stream? I hope so since I'm no listening till the 27th and have the CD in hand! haha
I used to be really into Major/Minor back when it was released and throughout 2012, but, from there, I just started to really enjoy the band's experimental and atmospheric sound they explored on Beggars, The Alchemy Index, and Vheissu as opposed to the straightforwardness of Major/Minor and The Artist In The Ambulance. There are a few songs I've never gotten into after nearly five years of listening now (Blinded, Treading Paper, Listen Through Me), and, aside from Words In The Water and Disarmed, the album feels very one-note. A lot of times I just feel tired of listening to it by the time I'm even halfway through. I mean, it's good I suppose, but it really fails to impress me like the three albums before it had.
It's still a great album, but not as compelling and interesting as their previous there. I'll give you that. I skip a track here and there on it just about every time.
I think Major/minor is super solid, but rarely amazing. The only song that REALLY gives me the feels is Words in the Water. I enjoy the whole album start to finish, though.
Words In The Water is definitely my favorite. I love Anthology as well, but I think it's lost a bit of its luster for me over time. Still a great jam to put on though.
I need to listen again as well but pretty sure chorus alternates 4/4 5/4 and 6/4. One of my favorites from that album.
Intro/Verse 1: 4/4 Pre-Chorus 1: Alternates between 5/4 and 6/4, but goes in 4/4 as it transitions into the chorus. Chorus 1: 4/4 Verse 2: 4/4 And so on and so forth.
Always funny to see "fans" use the same arguments that were used literally against every Thrice album that's ever been released by some subset of detractors. I feel like I'm in a time warp. I've been reading virtually these exact posts since TAITA.
@Jason Tate I also love how when any band has any heavy rock influence coming through, they're compared to shitty radio rock bands. It happens every time.
