I was wondering why I hadn't heard it. Found out it was from their shit album. Not affected. Love the new song though.
For some reason I think black honey sounds similar to "at the bottom" by brand new at certain parts of the song. On first listen that's what popped into my head after hearing this
I hear that too. The moment the drums kick in and that riff starts up, very At The Bottom-esque but sharper and hookier. And I'm going to disagree on the lyrics - I think they're written simply but bring fantastic imagery and depth of thought. Like most of Dustin's other lyrics, they go a step further than surface-level (American oil wars, foreign intervention) and get at deeper issues: men driven by greed and hubris, the consequences of taking what you please, and the folly in repeating that and expecting different results. Plus I dig the almost Animal Farm blending of man and bear - really conveys the simplicity and brutishness of the narrator, and Dustin's growl and the dirtier tone really sell those themes. Side note: I can't wait to hear the album-quality version of this. There are some harmonies that don't come through very well on the stream, and I want to hear that guitar/bass tone properly!
What's everyone's favorite song from each Alchemy EP? For me: The Arsonist The Whaler Daedalus Child of Dust
Like @Jason Tate "underappreciated blink-182 songs" here's my list of underappreciated Thrice songs :)
Lost Continent is probably my favorite song from Water and I'd probably say the same as The Arsonist from Fire.
I feel like Burn the Fleet is an underrated Thrice song. It's like sad and uplifting at the same time. And heavy.
