I heard it on the Beggars Tour and it's a ton better. The album version is pretty bland. Haha most of those are the same for me, save Arsonist and Child of Dust (though I wish I could get a version without that 2 minute ending of noise) Artist 2nd last by a huge margin? Hmmmmm. I feel like it has some of their best songs like Firebeather, Burn the Fleet, Messenger and Whaler but some weaker tracks keep it at number 2 or 3 for me. They should 100% expand on the Fire sound though for the new record and come out with a real rocker. I don't want to read again that Ed wad disappointed and wanted more jams lol
The tracks I'm most likely to skip are Night Diving, Kings Upon the Main, As the Crow Flies, Lion and the Wolf, Child of Dust. I'd add maybe The Flame Deluge, but there's still something I really like about that song. Then there's great tracks like Firebreather, The Arsonist, Burn the Fleet, Digital Sea, The Whaler, Daedalus, Moving Mountains, Come All You Weary and I'm sure I forget some. I'd say my ranking would be: Vheissu TBEITBN / Beggars M/m Alchemy Artist Illusion Identity
Eh, I've just never been a big fan of instrumental tracks to begin with. I mostly listen to music in the car where I like to sing out loud so having no vocals is not as fun for me. Also, I think Night Diving is kinda repetitive.
The stretch from Vheissu to Beggars was peak Thrice. TBEITBN is great too, but whenever I want to listen to Thrice these days, it's usually Vheissu, TAI, or Beggars
Same. Illusion of Safety and Artist are GREAAAAAAT summer records. Love to throw those on when it's like a hundred and humid and drink seltzer water like when I was 15 haha
Vheissu TBEITBN Fire/Water TAITA Illusion of Safety M/M Beggars Air/Earth Identity Crisis (from what I've heard of it)
It's just hard to rate them against their other records NOW since the context is gone. Sonically, they don't hold up. And it bums me out that newer fans will never view these records the same way I/we did.
I guess. I mean, they've definitely evolved/grown as a band and are better now, but I feel like a lot of people (even long time fans) shit on those records, and they shouldn't.
