I agree with that. Someone earlier said it has Riley's best drumming as well and I agree with that too.
Thrice went through the motions on M/M, which is understandable given the hardships of the band during that time. Words in the Water is pretty good though.
Man, if that album is them going through the motions then I feel sorry for most bands who try really hard to write something good. M/M is a good album. I understand that it's not ranked above other Thrice albums, but saying its almost unlistenable because of production is hyperbole.
I mean, its better produced and sounds better than Illusion of Safety which is an amazing and totally listenable album. Hyperbole. But carry on with the over hate.
M/M is just so loud to me. It can be a grating listen at times. That production style worked better on Beggars and TAI because those songs have a lot of breathing room and isn't just a bunch of loud rock songs. TBEITBN did a much better job at doing what the band set out to do with M/M from the hooks to the production.
Hot take: TAI is pretty insanely overrated. It’s fine, but I hope they never do a project like it again. I honestly skip tracks on each EP. if Beggars hadn’t been as good as it is, I probably would have discontinued being such a major Thrice fan. I would’ve still like the older stuff, but I’d be less likely to check out their new stuff.
Which tracks do you skip? As a huge TAI fan I still skip a few myself (backdraft, As The Crow Flys, A Song for Milly Michaelson). I just love most of those songs so much that I put it up top behind Vheissu and a little above or tied with Artist.
There's some great songs on TAI, but there's also some meh tracks. It sits in the middle of their discography for me.
I don’t always skip the same ones. But generally.... -Backdraft -The Arsonist -The Flame Deluge -Lost Continent -Night Diving -Kong’s Upon the Main -a Song for Milly Michaelson -As the Crow Flies -Child if Dust
I’d agree with that. I guess. Maybe a little lower due to the amount of songs I’m fairly indifferent to.
I used to agree with that. But the Ep I listen to the most of is Earth. But I probably like the songs I did listen to from Fire/Water more than most of Earth. But I listen to like half of F/W. Edit: read this as “best of TAI” vs all of Thrice. Oops.
