bahaha, no I'm just here trolling everyone, what is music? But of course, the song starts out with the same pace and stays that way until the end where it explodes........I don't understand how that is not the case? Even in the vinyl notes they talk about this song and how it was hard for them to keep it so simple and stripped down because by nature Teppi wanted to lay some crazy guitar work on it but restricted himself.
If you're saying Beggars doesn't build to anything I'm just going to assume you've never heard the song before
And those other songs do not build in the same way, so comparing them and saying they "do it better" just doesn't make sense to me at all
I think there's better songs by Thrice, some of which build better, but to say that the problem with Beggars is that it doesn't build up to anything before reaching its climax is crazy to me.
Exactly, like I can understand saying that they do have some songs that build better, but to say it builds up to absolutely nothing is just wrong and not an opinion at that point Beggars is probably a top 10 album of all time for me so I will fight this forever
This is a pretty good explanation. I never thought about it that way, will have to give it another listen with that mindset. I would take it 2nd to last on the album, putting Talking Through Glass last.
Hahaha this is getting out of hand. I don't think anyone said its a problem and that everyone likes the song. Just that its overrated in the grand scheme of things. At least I got this thread poppin for a little bit
I don't think of the song as that highly rated in the first place to be honest, I know some people love it and that's cool, but I wouldn't deem it one of the most popular Thrice songs.
Hahaha but my posts say they do the explosive endings better, not the building. This is like a game of telephone where you whisper something to your neighbor, let it go around the circle and see what it comes back as
He's practically seething by the end of it. The passion in his vocal delivery for me helps mask/sell some of the lyrics I find problematic, and I love that after building the song with his vocals they let it explode with the instruments rather than Dustin screaming.
I have always liked that part right before the explosion where his voice is cracking after the music stops and its just him for a line or two, for me its the high light of the song.
Everyone talking about the ending not being long enough, I think it would improve a ton of they recorded it like they play it live with Dustin yelling his Ohhhhhhs live during it until it reaches a crackling scream. That has always been an awesome thing to see.
Beggars is a good song, just nowhere near my favorite. It's like not even in my top 5 fav songs off of the album
Happy for Phoenix votes, sad for no As The Ruin Falls votes. Its ok though, I think it's safe to say Phoenix will win this round.
