Actually really liked wake up.. It's poppy in a heavy way but it's good.. On long defeat now, pretty impressed by it too.
Here's the article if you want to check it out Interviews: Thrice's Ed Breckenridge on the band's high-energy return
We should start a "Seneca" Kickstarter in order to get a full song. On the next album, they'll call it "Seneca The Younger" since it's the expanded version of the song.
Stay with me is pretty much confirmation that this band can write any style of song and make it incredible
I liked the comparison to Stay with Me to Red Sky by Riley - I get that vibe too, just a bit quicker obviously, and less 'cinematic' Also something I could easily see on Dustin's last solo album.
Glad we got that classic 5/4 thrice on whistleblower I'm sorry if I'm music geeking out but these moments are one of the reasons why I love this band
A sound that seems prevalent on this record is the major 1 or minor 3 chord progression. Also does anyone else get a doublespeak vibe from wake up?
The intro to Salt and Shadow was reminding me of a song and I couldn't pinpoint it. It's the verse riff from The Theft by Atreyu
Actually wouldn't be surprised if hurricane, stay with me, and salt shadow were somehow related just based on the music. Maybe they are the three songs on the record about his wife? They all use the chord progression I mentioned above
Hahaha, well... i was about to go to bed and then saw this was out there. so yeah, but im not going to listen to the whole thing tonight, i gotta go to bed. Sounds good so far though! Still dont know if i like Blood On The Sand. i think i like it. Hurricane though - what an opener.
Yea I'm pretty sure hurricane is linked with two other songs by sharing a chord progression and lyrical content about his wife..
The instrumentals are my favorite part of this album and Night Diving was my favorite song on the Water EP. I would love to hear them put out an instrumental album. I would love to see what they'd do with their music without them worrying about vocal synchronization. But, Dustin said they worried about the music first with this album and he wrote around it. Not sure if they do that often, but I feel like I can definitely feel it. I think the instrumentals overshadow the vocals on this album. Its the first time I have felt that way with Thrice.
