I've only heard the three songs the band released but Death from Above has the best riff I've heard in ages.
Is the bare acoustic guitar intro in Hurricane supposed to be an Earth Will Shake callback? That would be another example of Eric pulling from their existing bag of tricks. I love how this album pulls from their entire sonic palette.
Do you want me to qualify it with 'right now'? It'll obviously change as I listen to it further. Cool your jets.
First listen. Few quick thoughts. Salt and Shadow is great, brilliant, etc. It's perfect. Stay With Me, I kinda feel belongs on DK solo stuff, ill probably end up liking it but yeah..this confuses me on first listen. Seneca, loved every precious second. Love the end of The Long Defeat. Death From Above, love that heavy chorus!
I mean if I had my way I'd go full #hottake on "ranking" culture ... but I don't think anyone wants that.
Man, just sitting here listening to another Thrice record is pretty crazy to me. 9 freaking albums, and they're still going strong. 14 years of listening to this band and not getting bored of them, it's a pretty unique thing that I know I should appreciate.
I think ranking is fun! It's an excuse to sit down after listening to the album and reminisce about the moments you loved the most about it.
It's surreal. I've been with them since IC. My family and I went to Vegas and they had IC on display at Virgin inside the Forum Shops. The first track I played was Phoenix Ignition. It was a religious experience. The only time that compares is when I watched Nirvana play Lithium live at the VMAs in '92. I trashed my tape collection from that moment forward.
I just can't get over how amazing this year (or this MONTH) has been for music. I'm beyond grateful right now.
This is definitely better than M/M, and that was my expectation. So I'm happy with this. I can't wait to listen to this again and again.
Ranking is fun and dumb and should not be taken seriously. I don't see the difference between ranking and reviews. Reviews are just as pointless when we're talking about a completely subjective artistic form.
He wanted something more in your face right? I think this album could have used 1 or 2 of those songs to be completely honest. I hope they go with the concept album Dustin had in mind for the next one.
I love the instrumental moments I've heard so far.. Dustin kills it but this band just absolutely knows how to groove
Something along those lines.. He also said he wishes they had more of an opportunity to jam on it rather than file sharing.. Makes sense bc a lot of great bass lines are written jamming in a room
Just reading Riley's interview. He has the same favourite songs as me. That means I am correct and you are all incorrect with your subjective opinions. 1-0 me. p.s. I have been replaying Hurricane over and over for the last 30 minutes. What a song.
Does it sound like Ed is upset with how it turned out or just that he would've liked to have jammed a bit more?
