Probably just wanted to see if they could some insider trading info because Martin Shkreli was emailing them.
Man, wish I had $800 I could spend on trying to hear an album early. hahaha That does sound like a Martin Shkreli thing to do though. Edit: wish I had $800 just in general. Never seen more than $400 in my bank before.
This is my Neighborhoods. The difference is: Thrice will deliver on their comeback album, unlike Blink. So, why wouldn't I do everything in my power to hear it? I also reached out to a few local parties, besides Vagrant, but I won't disclose them here.
I don't wanna get into shit on here, so this'll be last comment before ducking out but... waiting until the 27th is well within your power........ bye guys
Sometimes my deadlines and instructions differ, but I prefer the reader to be able to listen whenever my review goes live. It feels very singular to just read my words without any context of it. In a perfect world, I'd like the relationship to be one of mutualism. My thoughts either illuminate their experience of the record, or reaffirm to them why they disagree with me, and hopefully put that energy towards something they do enjoy.
Personally, I like having an expectation formed (per your review) before my first listen. Then, I figure out where I come out on things after that first listen is complete. At that point, I'd revisit your review and identify where we agree/disagree. I'm deeply involved in the TV/Film world so I guess I'm accustomed to their way of doing things. But, the only way I can occasionally get access to press screenings/screeners is if I provide something in return: promotion ahead of a movie release or added coverage the week prior to an episode. When a label provides you with an advanced press stream, doesn't that come with the expectation that you'll publish your review with enough time left before the release date? That way, you can influence your readership's decision to buy (or not buy) a particular record in its first week. In other words, does the label provide you with a set of terms in order to receive a press stream? Or, are you free to do what you want as long as you write something eventually? (That's what it sounds like and that's just hard to reconcile compared to my experience.)
And I imagine the Monday to Wednesday before a Friday release would be ideal timing for a review to influence sales.
Different publications have different takes on this. Blake asked me about publishing the PUP review this week versus next and what we should do, and I wrote this: I think having it on the week of release is just a better practice to get into. I think by and large there are two main reasons to post a review: 1) to get people excited to hear it or know what’s coming, 2) to give people something to think about after they’ve heard it. Once it’s streaming you get rid of #1 for most diehard fans, so it makes more sense to let people have some time with it and then have the 1-2 punch of them wanting to see your thoughts + the group that is not sure if they wanna check it out on that Friday reading the review and deciding to give it a chance. I just like this method more than it being up early to be "first" instead of being at the right moment for the readers and not forgotten before the release date.
I embargo all reviews unless it's for a band I've never heard before or an album I can't yet physically listen to how about that!? boom. you must be shaken
That's the interlude sounds nice though. Did anyone post this one yesterday, cause "The Long Defeat" sounds freaking awesome
That first part of The Long Defeat has total A Hope For Home vibes or maybe it's just me. Both those clips sound sooooo good though
The stream would have been up by now if the weekend was a possibility, looks like we're waiting until Monday :[
Hopefully it's not longer then that. I haven't been this excited for an album in a long time. My favorite band is back and their record is so close.
