It's worth mentioning that Thrice's radio-singles never reflected their actual sound. So, when people say they're "radio-friendly," I disagree since the songs that did make the radio were vastly different from the rest of their records and overall sound. As everybody knows, Island had to pull teeth just to get those singles out of them. Once they left Island, the expectation of writing a "single" just wasn't there any longer. Sure, arguments could be made for something like "In Exile" but nothing has felt as forced as "All That's Left", "Image of the Invisible" or "Lullaby." I'm still curious to hear the "single" that was left off of "Fire," which was the only song that Island liked from TAI.
I don't remember of any of this sort of talk at the time. I do know that Daedalus was scrapped from Vheissu then revived for Air.
I wouldn't call Thrice radio rock either for the same reasons mentioned above. I'd consider them an album band. I think that's because they place a lot of value on album sounds. I don't see radio rock bands doing something like pulling off a major label to release something like the Alchemy Index.
When the album first went up, and I bought the first variant, it said it was 180g. Now I can't find anything that says it is. I love colored vinyl, but will always buy 180g over colored variants. Does anyone else remember or know that the clear smoke variant is 180g?
Yeah it's really confusing. Once the clear smoke sold out, then the black 180g option became available. At the time, their website said it was limited to 1000. However, since they took the 180g notation down and they took the quantity down. I just preordered from Amazon. Really hope they get the Black, 180g variant (assuming there even is one). What's most frustrating is the fact that the first round of preorders went up in the middle of the night while most people were sleeping. It would have been nice to at least have a choice.
I might shoot an email to the merch store and hope they answer. The only reason I got in on that initial batch was because I stayed up till the track showed up on Apple Music at 11 PM. I also have a second order with Amazon, because I really want 180g, but don't know if I have to order from the official merch store to get the 180g.
I hope this album comes with song notes like the previous albums. I enjoy reading how each song was created.
So hopeful this happens. I've hesitated to contact the band via social media to ask about this, because at this point it can't be changed. This will be the first Thrice record I'll own on vinyl, so I'm anticipating all the usual bells and whistles.
I wish all bands included song notes with their albums. I still go back and read Vheissu's notes and Blink's Untitled.
Alchemy index, beggars, and major minor had the notes with vinyl and artist and Vheissu came with the delux cd's.
Has anyone heard any talk of B-Sides? At this point in their career, it seems like they're only recording what they're putting on the record.
I want b-sides, but I feel like they definitely just went in and tracked the songs they wanted on the album. Also, talked to their merch store: the Limited Clear Smoke vinyl is 180g. So that's nice.
It took me a while to listen to "Black Honey" due to all the Blink excitement, but I finally did and I think it rules. It feels so good to have a new Thrice album on the horizon.
Bummed I didn't even have a chance to get one of these. Who released a preorder in the middle of the night?
