Yeah if you take that song out of the picture you’ve got Hurricane, The Window, The Long Defeat, then Black Honey thru Salt and Shadow that I would all say are worthy of being among the band’s best songs. It’s insane.

 

Do you think sea change would have worked better there?

I adore Sea Change and kinda wish it had a place on the album, but I also really like Wake Up, and might even prefer it to stuff like Stay With Me. I get a really strong Major/Minor vibe off of it, and that album remains one of my favourite Thrice albums, so I'm all for it. Chorus rips too, especially that riff!

 

I feel among the minority that actually like Wake Up. I get the people who don't love it, but I just love the chord progressions in the chorus enough that it keeps me listening.

I didn't love the album early on, but there are some all-time great Thrice songs on here.

It just sounds to me like it should be played at Mars Hill Church or somethin

 

I mean, I feel like a lot of Major Minor could be that way, more than Wake Up. Stay with me has a similar makeup to modern worship songs like Hillsong/United Pursuit/etc. I think I remember reading a thread here where someone heard the opening bars of Stay With Me and thought it was a CCM song.

 

I definitely hear that on the Stay With Me chorus for sure

 

I imagine dusting singing "wake up sheeple" Everytime I hear the song.

 

Wake up and the window are the two I’m not too fond of on this album

 

I like The Window a lot. Reminds me of There There from Hail to the Theif but heavy

 

Wake Up is a good song with a bad chorus.

It’s kind of hard for me to say, because once I hear an album, any change to the track list just sounds off to me. But I know a lot of people make their own track lists and it works for them. I just can’t get into that personally for some reason. I do like Sea Change a lot more than Wake Up though, I just don’t know if it has a track 4 vibe. It sounds more like it belongs at the end of the album.

 

Feels out of sorts on TBEITBN, and is more in line with the sound on Beggars.

 

Plz don’t talk about Beggars like that

Those seem to be the sore thumbs on the last two albums. I think I order listen through me, just bc I think the chorus has a bit more substance. Wake up does have that great breakdown tho
