I actually like Sea Change a lot. I think it would have fit well on the album, esp if it replaced Wake Up. I can see it transitioning well between Window and Long Defeat.
This. "Wake Up" didn't bring the record down for me, but I like the mellowness of "Sea Change" so much that TBEItBN might have been my AOTY if this was the case. It would've made the record more dynamic, which is the one thing that was missing for me. And it was still in my Top 5.
If I can get a good download for it, I'd even pay for it on iTunes, I'd actually probably switch it and Wake Up out and see how it sounds.
It's been posted on Youtube again, as of last night - I imagine it'll keep bouncing up/down based on takedown notices. Someone on Reddit posted a download link a few days ago and it sounds much, much better than the low quality files that have been posted. Only thing I find myself wishing with Sea Change is that Riley's part was more interesting/varied, although I'm not sure how "final" his take was in studio. But I hope this makes its way into Thrice's setlist someday based on the outro guitar + vocals alone.
I wasn't a big fan of Thrice and didn't dig back into their catalog until after this came out, so I still like it a good bit. Hurricane has one of the best choruses I've ever heard in a rock song.
Hurricane is one of Thrice's best songs. It's sad to say, but I haven't gone back to this much, there's so many new things coming out. They're my favorite band though and anything they touch always ends up coming back into rotation for me eventually.
All digital sales for "Hurricane" through the end of the year are being donated to Red Cross. I love this band so much.
I think the whole album, really. I'd make an argument for The Window over Hurricane, but anything off TBEITBN is the tighter than what they've done before... somehow.
