I forgot Mudvayne were even a band until I read that name in this thread. Black Honey is incredible, dissenters be damned.
Black Honey is soooooo goood. I love it! Had to pre order the album. But I don't have that song yet even though its been released....lame hope that changes soon
An actual baritone guitar uses a longer scale. Thrice use teles and a jag which have standard scales and smaller than standard scale respectively. Everyone started to say they use "baritone" guitars when really they're just tuning low and playing ballsy riffs on low guage strings on twangy fenders. The point of using a real baritone is to do such a thing but Im not sure I've ever seen an actual guitar with a baritone scale in their hands unless I'm not paying attention and someone wants to correct me
Music Box is much more melodic musically and vocally, it doesn't sound like an active rock radio single
Also to everyone, yes I am well aware that the new Thrice singles do not sound anything like Mudvayne, I was just trying to make a point about how "active rock radio"-y they sound
So you're saying that "more-melodic" is less radio-friendly while "less-melodic" is more radio-friendly?
We have a Nickleback and Mudvayne comparison, am I really reading this stuff about these two songs? Did people not listen to Major Minor, or Beggars, or Vheissu? When people say this doesn't sound like Thrice it just makes me think you have no clue what Thrice sounds like then.
Yeah, let's stop saying "radio rock" and instead say "sounds like Nickelback". I think everyone will be happier.
I guess it's not even worth me saying the record doesn't sound like "radio rock," "generic rock," Nickelback, etc. because the singles don't either and they're fairly representative of the album's sound. If you disagree, just know that going in haha
I'm pretty much ready to hear this whole thing now. Don't need any more build up or to read any more impressions. I'd do almost anything to have it in my hands right now.
just call it alt rock I don't understand how someone couldn't see how the singles have qualities that sound like popular alt rock that would play on alt rock radio anytime in the last 15 or 20 years. and that's not an inherently bad thing but some people understandably don't like that
Why is something being on the radio or liked by others a bad thing? I don't get the negative connotation.
They absolutely do, as does the album. I just didn't like the terms being thrown around because of the negative connotations people would place on them. Sorry if that was unclear, trying to find a way to reword my post now
I suppose my point was a little muddled. Im not an admirer of the style because I feel like Ive heard way more than enough of it growing up. Thats my deal personally. I hope people dont decide what to like based on if its popular or not.
