What does that even mean though? They had a number one rock record this year

 

They're still fairly unknown to people outside of the "scene"

 

it's definitely not a sexy pick

 

straightforward rock just isnt fashionable right now

 

I see a band like pup on a lot of lists which I guess they are more young and hip and it makes me wonder why they would be recognized over a band like thrice. For the record I liked that pup album, but I've seen it pop up on two eoty lists and haven't seen thrice yet so it made me wonder

 

Thrice is my AOTY i've got absolutely no shame in admitting that and I've listened to a TON of new music this year. Yet its still at the top of the list for me.

you said it yourself. pup is young and up-and-coming. they're a "bandwagon," for lack of a better word, that publications can attach their name to early on. thrice is 8 (9 if you separate alchemy index) albums deep in their career, and while it's a good record for sure, they hardly reinvented themselves or made a fucking flawless record or anything. it's pretty easy to see why it's been left off lists. there's nothing to gain from including them.

 

pubs include pup on their list: "hmm maybe ill check out pup now" (most music fans out there curious about a name they don't recognize)

pubs include thrice on their list: *neckbeardos that went to college in the mid aughts nod silently*

 

Yea these reasons all make sense.

Actually haven't listened to Pup before, but they've been on my list all year :x

It's probably not just Thrice, are there any albums that sound like this one on any Top 100 lists?

Though I absolutely love this album it was seeing them in Sept(for the third time) that solidified them as being such an exceptional band. Their live show is so good. Their To Be Everywhere songs were especially good. The Window sounded HUGE.

 

"The Window" still rules.

Disappointed that people didn't have the record higher on their Top 10s.

Only two songs on the album, especially window, that I skip.
Long defeat and death from above are perfect.

 

I like The Window.
