I don't mind La Dispute but what young bands would we like to see tour with Thrice (that make sense with their kind of music)? Exclude Brand New, of course. Is O'Brother headlining their own tours now? Secondly, what other bands do you guys love that are most comparable to Thrice in terms of being able to give you "the feels"? Must include great vocals; an interesting and heavy rhythm section and beautiful/melodic lead guitar (but not overbearing). I'm having a tough time finding a young band that hits me the way that Thrice did 16 years ago. There's a power to their music, even when the guitars aren't roaring and I can't find that feeling with today's younger bands.
I completely mind La Dispute lol, but I would love Wolves at the Gate. They could play their amazing cover of Deadbolt if Thrice doesn't want to play it. It's a win/win.
Haven't ever really listened to La Dispute, but apparently they are pretty polarizing. Where should I start with them to get familiarized before my show?
Scrolling through my iTunes (and without too much thought) some bands I think would be good are: All Get Out Basement Citizen Dikembe Frameworks Pianos Become the Teeth Prawn Preoccupations (formerly Viet Cong) Restorations Superheaven Touche Amore White Lung And if they wanted to do something like when they brought out Animals As Leaders (I'm not sure how that went over with their fanbase) and go with a metal(ish) band then Latitudes, Pyramids, or Spotlights might be good. I don't know if these fit your criteria, but All Get Out and Pianos Become the Teeth give me "the feels", especially AGO's Movement EP from last year and PBtT's Keep You from 2014. I think they both made big leaps with those releases and I'm really looking forward to what they do next. Also, the new Touche Amore song is something else, miles ahead of their last album, and if the rest of their new record comes anywhere close to that, it's going to be among my top albums of the year.
I haven't listened to the new Touche song but that makes me excited, specifically because I thought their last album was miles ahead of the first two.
riley mentioned really loving the new hotelier record on twitter.. would LOVE if they brought them out
they have a new record coming out this year, get excited Also think the singer is going to mix my bands ep which is pretty cool ha
I honestly really like My Epic but I don't know that they're a "young band". The lyrics however I think are on par with Dustin's in that he they write about spiritual things in a really interesting way and I really like the musicianship. The lyrics are definitely overtly more religious than with Thrice (just in case that's not your thing).
cosign. I've seen it mentioned that Gates were in the same vain but I still prefer MovMou. The Cascade will always be my jam from them. they were on tour with Thrice and O'Bro, right? I can't imagine how else I'd heard of them. anyway, yes, Moving Mountains but not sure if they're still playing shows, last I recall they had recorded a song or two after saying they were finished...
Who You Are Is Not Enough is my favorite by them. It's five songs but somewhere around thirty minutes, but it's really, really good post rock and among my favorite albums
