I like both songs. Looking forward to hearing the proper album and not streams. 2/2 and Black Honey is stuck in my head already. It feels always feels like Thrice put their emphasis on albums and not just singles which means we still have a lot more to look forward to hearing
as a writer, the personal lyrics are either goin to be a grand slam or a complete strike out. as for the song itself, the opening notes reminded me of 'hole in the head' from nickelback. i like the song as a stand alone. i won't judge the lyrics until i hear the album as a whole. but so far, the new album is two for two with me.
I don't think the lyrics are going to be too personal at all, though. Dustin stressed that most of this album is focused on America's current political and cultural climate than on his personal experiences.
Listened to Black Honey a few more times and it's such a fucking tight song musically, but the lyrics still don't do it for me.
Love both of the songs so far, but mostly because Thrice is already my established favorite. It's not like it's hit me so hard as some other releases so far, for example I like the Gates new single more, and that might be a surprise. Still high hopes for the album to be much bigger - I repeatedly have never been too fond of their first singles since "Vheissu", and then grew to like them a lot too.
@Deathco_019 yeah, that's why it came to my mind with their new single :) I'd cry with joy if we had such a great tour in Europe.
It's going to be tough, but I'm going to hold off listening to anything more from this album until it comes out. I listened to about half of Blood On The Sand once (loved what I heard of it) and I just sort of want to come in blind.
I saw Gates about a year ago touring on some old material I suppose. Sounded really same-y but I felt they definitely had potential
This is pretty much how I feel about their album and EPs. I like everything they've done, but I feel like they can release something great not just good.
I don't know how I feel about the term "radio rock," but in terms of being more straightforward and potentially getting airplay, I think "Blood in the Sand," "Wake Up," and a few other tracks could fall into that category. To me, "Black Honey" represents the other side of the album well, which is why i thought it was a good second song to release. I actually love "Black Honey," haha.
@Jason Tate or @Aaron Mook, is there anything you would consider atmospheric on here? Thrice dabbled a lot in writing atmospheric music on Vheissu, Water/Air, and Beggars and I was wondering if there was more of that this time around because I missed it on M/M despite the presence of Words In The Water.
"Black Honey" is pretty good - really eager to hear this one. 2016 is becoming overwhelming with all the best bands releasing new material.
@Deathco_019 There's definitely one full song that calls back to Air and plenty of little flourishes on the less straightforward tracks.
