they're such a great live band. one of the few to win me over live before ever listening to them, saw them open for alk3 and rise against in 2008 and well the rest is history
Sound is terrible but shows how much of a beast Ed is. I can watch him jam and groove all day long. There are so many videos that zoom in on Dustin the whole time. We need more Ed always.
I like later renditions of this song live where Dustin screams during the outro jam. The Shockhound session videos are so good though and I remember them being a treat when Beggars was first released.
I watched the Live at the HOB DVD earlier this week, and damn, that's a solid setlist. I love when the guys from Aushua come out for the outro of Firebreather.
Teebs, I heard Circles at their very first show back last year. Months prior, I worked Dustin to play it via Twitter. That and The Arsonist. Both were played.
When everybody comes in after Teppei's intro riff, Dustin's lead part leaves much to be desired. I realize that the record blends multiple guitars and tones but it creates this magical moment. Hopefully, they'll find a way to improve this particular moment as they become more familiar with the song in the live setting.
Also, I still can't believe the initial reaction to "Black Honey." I love this song just as much as I did upon first listen. It's also the one single that I never got sick of prior to the record's release. I love when the crowd sings the bridge. As far as crowd sing-alongs, it's not as awesome as TLD's outro but it's still damn good.
I sent him a tweet saying, "if you are planning on playing firebreather on this tour feel free to debut it on Friday in philly" lol I don't usually do that sort of thing but I figured worse case scenario he ignores me
Last year, I asked Riley how he felt about "For Miles" in retrospect. He messaged back to me etc. Then, within a week or two, they launched that feature on their site where they reflected on songs from their catalog. Riley's first song? "For Miles." He mentioned how it was one of his favorite songs, only it didn't translate live as well as they wanted. I'm glad they changed their mind on that and are playing it still. That's a top 5 tune for yours truly. Every time, no matter what, I get chills down my spine during that bridge/outro.
It's my favorite song by them, but I can see why they think it doesn't translate as well live. What makes the song amazing is it is so soft up until it explodes. Live the bass, drums and guitars are so loud it doesn't explode into that outro as much. I still love seeing it live despite.
