I hope they release "Only Us" next. It'll get people excited af. I'd then release "Just Breathe" ... cause fuck yeah ... but I expect "The Dark" to be the other one released.
iTunes had the first 3 track times up when it originally went up for pre-order, thinking those will be the singles, it was "Only Us", "The Grey", and "The Dark". I really want to hear "Just Breathe" though.
"I'm finally seeing how the spaces make the songs." I think Dustin agrees. Cause everything belongs, duh.
A lot of Major/minor would fit better on Dustin’s solo stuff. As a Christian, I’m not nearly as bothered by the lack of subtlety in the lyrics, but I still vastly prefer the subtlety. I’m going to take a wild guess and say that Palms deviates even further from the Christian undertones than even TBEITBN.
I’ve taken note of that one, but I’ve been really intrigued by Dustin’s interactions on twitter lately, and genuinely expected things to deviate a bit. I’m okay with it either way. Dude is a wordsmith. Very few lyricists I value anywhere near him. Aaron Weiss is up there too.
After hearing Erase Me, I remember agreeing with you when you were saying they should have released Hold Your Breath before hand, so I trust you!
Alchemy is tops but I think I just tend to be a fan of big sprawling albums/projects like Mellon Collie, In Your Honor (top 3 Foo album for me), etc more than the average bear. The fact that it’s more segmented than a normal Thrice album is more than compensated by the overall structure of the project as a whole
I never paid much attention to the lyrics of "Listen Through Me" because to me the music made it one of the most uninteresting Thrice songs in their discography, but actually reading the lyrics further supports that view. The pre-chorus is just a little too much for me to enjoy as a non-religious being.
I'm late to the Broken Lungs discussion, but I feel really dumb for not realizing the theme of that song. It seems really obvious after reading Dustin's notes. Unfortunately it makes it appreciate the song slightly less...
Just listened to The Melting Point of Wax because it's been forever since I've listened to that album. It's definitely a great song but nowhere near as good as Daedalus for me. But hey, it's totally up to taste. I was never that big on that album aside from the title track and The Abolition of Man, anyways. I know I'm probably gonna get some shit for that last sentence lol
