Realistically we should be getting a new song this month right? I mean we have August left as the month before release after this. One in July and one in August should be it.

  2. I never listen to TAI, just realized. Ever. I like their albums so much better because they feel like albums and complete thoughts.

  4. The combination of the sounds is what makes Thrice great. Taking only a part of that greatness is still good, but the bands that are great at those individual sounds are way better. I like Thrice doing what Thrice does best. One side of a triangle isn’t sturdy.

  5. (And Earth and the 9/11 truther song low key kinda suck.)

    Disagree 1000%

Atleast in relation to Fire and Water. those felt like fully fleshed out EPs to me
Air and Earth are a def way shakier for me

Yeah I mean I could see not getting into Air/Earth, but Fire/Water are so solid.

I’m a big TAI fan, myself.

    And I enjoy Earth/Air more than Fire/Water.

So I’m apparently way out there on a limb.

I like Water because it sounds like Radiohead. I like Earth because it sounds like Dustin solo. I don't like the other two as much, but they are nice

Water and fire together is as good as any of their albums though Jason

The only song I could do without is The Earth Isn’t Humming but that’s because I prefer covers not to be included on albums. Lyrics aside I really enjoy Broken Lungs.

  15. Maybe.

I'd still take what they did on Beggars over that. The combination of the elements. Captain Planet is better than the single little nerds and their rings. I do love me some Water though.

I’ve always been able to imagine Broken Lungs as an anti-Iraq War / US foreign policy song.

But then again, as an atheist Thrice fan, I’ve had a lot of practice imprinting my own messages onto Dustin’s lyrics.

"This song has been a stumbling block to people, which is good I think. You shouldn’t be able to listen to it comfortably. Whatever you think about the events of 9/11, there is nothing to be lost by examining the official story and seeing if it adds up and makes the most sense of the facts. The trajectory of the modern world springs forward from those events and if we hold a false view of those events, it will be impossible to steer well into the future.

Don’t be turned away by disinformation; there are many credible sources out there and a diverse crowd of people (physicists, theologians, FBI agents, me, etc.) who believe that the official story is omitted and distorting much of what happened that terrible day. So I hope this song might trouble you and encourage you to look deeper into the issue. Also, I set these words down with a heavy heart but an open mind, knowing that I may not clearly understand the whole picture, but knowing enough to firmly believe that the story we were given does not add up, and a more honest or unified explanation does not seem forthcoming."

  19. But they always feel like EPs. They feel like a taste of something, and something that I'd argue other bands actualize better in full albums and songs, without really becoming anything more. They don't have the same ebb and flow that an album has to bring you into the sound. They do a nice job at peeking into the window and seeing a band playing with something, but they never feel wholly Thrice, or wholly actualized, because they're -- on purpose mind you -- limited. The box they put themselves in creatively is a cool idea, and it creates some good music, but it's (by definition) limiting and I think that shows.

The process of getting through those lead to Beggars though, which I think is all the limitations removed, and that's why that album hits a new level for the band. IMO.

  20. That's how I looked at it when I first heard it as well.

Same. Until M/M. That was the first album I had a very hard time being able to do what with. It was weird.

As far as AI goes, I hold Water/Fire in very high regards. Definitely higher than Air/Earth, which might be my least favorite of their post-Artist work.

since you posted this, I swore it said "I've never listened to TAI, just realized" and I have been SO CONFUSED that you never even listened to it at all. But now I understand, and everything makes more sense.

  23. I think that hurt that EP as well.

I think Fire/Water/Air, sequenced in the right way, could be quite interesting. I've never played around with finding the right order though.
