Stumbling West made me think of Dustin acoustic solo for part of it. I do think it’s cool when the album name gets featured in a song
Deeper Wells- It's cool that they went hard with this one, but it's the weakest Palms track in my opinion. Better Bridge- Really like this one as it reminds me of one of my favorite tracks from TBEITBN, Stay With Me. In This Storm and Stumbling West and Hold Up a Light are also great.
Bridge is a little tougher than Stay With Me, which is why I equate it to Music Box and how the choruses crash after the vocal. But, yeah, same family of Thrice songs. Mid-tempo sing-alongs with a certain power to them.
Palms would've been praised twofold had they left it all on the field. Giving themselves another payday 6 months later doesn't sit well with me. I understand why they did such a thing, but Palms suffered for it.
As much as I love Palms, every single one of these songs is better than "Hold up a Light" and it's not even close. I think they are even better than "A Branch in the River", put these 4 tracks in Palms and it's a classic in my opinion. And holy fuck "Stumbling West", that's all I got to say about that gorgeous jam.
I feel like we could all have a good discussion on where these songs would fit on the album, I think they would have definitely added some diversity to the album. Not that they are far off from what "Palms" was, but I feel like these 4 tracks would have added diversity. "Palms" to me is far better than "To Be Everywhere is to be Nowhere", I know there's a lot of people that won't agree, but that's how I feel about the band since Thrice came back together. TBEITBN sounded pretty bland to me, not sure how else to describe it. Even though this band is my absolute favorite, it always takes a bit for me to absolutely adore their albums. Right now I am a bit tipsy typing on this keyboard, but in a Stumbling West when Dustin sings "And I was born to love you" I tear up, his voice and that emotion he puts through is unmatched. Their albums have given me moments like that throughout my life and that's why I will forever love this band. I know some of this may seem like random thought rambling, but sometimes it's pretty cathartic to just write shit you're thinking at the moment.
I like Hold Up a Light, but would’ve been fine with it and Deeper Wells as the b-sides, with the other 3 tracks from this added to Palms for a killer 12-song album.
Can’t download the rip til I get home later today but I’m excited to listen. I was able to snag a copy online earlier this morning too, so that redeemed my fruitless trip to the record store yesterday haha.
I really dig all four tracks. with Stumbling West being my favorite. I'm hoping we get a slightly louder rip soon, but I can't complain much... I'm just glad I got to hear this!
I guess I need to listen to Colour Revolt more then! Someone on here rec'd me them and tbh I kinda forgot to listen to a full album
