I like it. Not saying it’s anywhere near my favourite song on Palms, but it has its place and reason.
I'm not saying you're an exception, but you're mostly the one always bringing up that Hold Up a Light hate in the discussion. Anyway just as I said it didn't hit the web, it got added to the website I was watching the most.
Idk what the relevance of it ONLY charting for 4 weeks is, I don't think another song would've done more on radio. It was their most radio song this time around. Not hard to understand why it's a single. First single by most of the bands I like is rarely a favorite of mine. Doesn't mean it shouldn't have been the single.
Like ending chorus scream in deeper wells and the vocal drop out to start the second verse. The song like a lot of their recent output falls within the category, of me not liking how Dustin sounds in the shouty verses. Then loving the back half of the song when it gets interesting.
I don't give a damn about lyrics. The music and melodies are too strong. Speaking of on the nose, "Hold Up a Light."
In this storm. Favorite vocal delivery so far. Feels like it would have easily sequenced on the record. The bass grooves at the ~2 min mark SLAYS. The last minute in and a half is fucking awesome. Peak Thrice. Love this track
I think everything but the title track on the EP should have made the record. He delivers that line really well. The melody is on point
They wanted some heavier stuff coming out of TBE, with Branch, Deeper Wells and A Better Bridge they have that. Feels very ‘state things are in’ as they’ve pulled off so very well before. I do love when lyricists have a themolgy in their writing. Dustin hits on a lot of light/dark, calm and stormy waters stuff that is cool and consistent.
