Thrice writes great album closers. Cant think of one I dont love. Even T&C and Beltsville are good.
Nah I'm pretty sure he didn't, which was a disappointment.
Does anyone have a favourite song on Palms other than Pines?
Those songs def had some shredding going on. If a B-Side had Teppi go wild again, I would lose it.
Blood on Blood, Just Breathe, and My Soul.
Just Breathe for me, with also Branch and Everything Belongs above it.
Blood on blood
Honestly I was indifferent to A Branch in the River when I first heard it. But after seeing it live I've really come around to it. Love when that happens.
On my date they changed up the order of the songs a little bit, still played the same songs, but we got Branch coming right off Paper Tigers and then into Hurricane and it sounded so good!
Just Breath > Pines.
Just Breathe, Pines, and Blood on Blood are a three-way tie for me
I guess most people agree on the top end songs anyway.
for sure Just Breathe. But The Dark and Pines are up there.
Similarly to my previous post I didn't quite love The Dark on first listen, but seeing it live helped me appreciate it more, especially the drums in the verses and the ending group vocal part.
I like The Dark. I think after hearing Dustin sample that section for fans to record I was eager to hear a final version. I’d imagine you can feel those drums in your chest live. And please, no one give Jbent a hard time for not naming those who sang guest vocals even if it’s just a joke. Not the time.
Only Us, The Grey, Everything Belongs, and A Branch In The River are my highlights.
For those who’ve heard Only Us live, does it sound less industrial?
It sounds heavier live in my opinion. The guitar and bass really pound through the verses and bridge. And Dustin goes off vocally, of course.
I honestly don't know how to answer that but I do echo the below.
I've seen thrice live more than any other band over the last 15 years except one (mwY) and I gotta say they have never disappointed. True professionals. They balance their sets so well with what people wanna hear and what they wanna play. I love hearing the new songs live because they really jump out at me. Even a couple years ago the TBEITBN songs live for the first time was unreal. Hope they tour this summer and play a couple other Palms tracks before this cycles over.
I love how all the lights turn off in the middle of Silhouette right before Ed screams. Dramatic af and I’m here for it. I think they upped their lights game for this tour.
That bass sounds so good in Only Us
Not surprised that sounded so good. I can't see how they don't get some new fans after this tour.
I second Meg Myers (of course), Julien Baker, and Wolf Alice.
I would also add Slothrust, Cherry Glazerr, Garbage, Rubblebucket, The Cranberries, Fiona Apple, Liz Phair (mostly her earlier material), Jewel (mostly her earlier material), PJ Harvey, Poe, Rilo Kiley, Metric, Best Coast, Broods, Brody Dalle (The Distillers, Spinerette, as well as her solo material), Phantogram, CHVRCHES, Ms Mr, The Naked and Famous, and Seapony.
Sorry if that's kind of a lot haha
That band DAUGHTER is pretty cool, too. Oh, and Middle Kids.
Man, I grew up on a steady diet of Fiona.
That badass band Slow Mass also mixes in some female-led vocals.
