See, here’s where it gets murky. It isn’t an equal comparison because men are not underrepresented within the music scene. This argument is a slippery slope into some problematic territory. I think it’s perfectly fine to name the guest vocalist on the album so that people could check her out. I also don’t think there was malicious intent in saying “guest vocalist”. This could have ended a lot sooner than it did
Why was there anything after that to begin with. Why does that post I made deserve to to be called out? And continuously. And then again 12 hours later after sending me an insulting PM. No where in my post was gender a factor. If we want to have that conversation about equal opportunity for artists, I don’t want to do it in a Thrice Palms thread unless one of band members comes out an says that don’t want to tour with women, which will never happen because like so many of us here, are good people.
Hey, you have a weird history arguing about female visibility within music. Your initial post was not problematic. The more that you say, the more you’re digging yourself into a hole. While the intial reaction was absolutely aggressive, it is also very easy for you to concede that naming her and promoting her is a cool thing to do as well. Arguing back about it, and continuing to do so with a person who doesn’t give a shit about any of this, is a weird look
@.K. yeah I think it should just be dropped. Your point as been made and either people get it or they don't. This is the internet and opinions aren't going to be changed. I'd love for this to not carry into tomorrow at all
It could have not started. It’s not a gender issue at all. It’s about a band finally trying to use a guest vocalist after 20 years. Not the guests genitals. Not, Thrice is finally willing to work with women. Not which female the decided to work with. Dustin has female vocals on some of his worship stuff. This is Thrice related.
These two posts... without prior context of who these people are and I don't know them... just seems like one poster adding more information to the the prior post... Which is ya know... good to know cause I've never heard of that name before!!! Just be like..." yes that is her name good additional info." I don't think anyone takes issue with the first post and the latter isn't coming for the former's neck so. So... I don't get why people got weirdly defensive.
Can't this all be absolved by one party saying "Yo sorry my bad, I get why it would have been good to name the guest vocalist as Emma Ruth Rundle, I had no misintent but I'm also capable of learning and growing, as we all should be" And the other party saying "Yo sorry for the personal attacks, I'm passionate about these things and am just trying to help with female representation in music" Feels like both parties are just not backing down at this point because they don't want to be 'wrong' when it never had to get to this? Idk, it doesn't seem like this discussion is happening in good faith anymore and it's not benefiting either side. And then I can come in and say I saw Thrice last night and they rocked
It’s a medical term. Is that now offensive too? I would have described a guest artist as a guest artist if they were male or female. It’s sad because I think that certain people are taking issue with this because they feel like they are protecting and promoting a female. Except, protecting her from what, being called a guest artist.
I'm just over here trying to figure out how we're both-sidesing a situation where one person was simply trying to make sure that a musician's name is known and credited for her contribution to the album and the other person came back with a snarky response out of nowhere as if the simple act of naming an artist was some kind of attack. Instead of being a normal person and saying something like "Oh great, thanks for letting me know her name! My bad for not knowing it before." Or something like that. That's actually how the whole situation could've been avoided.
I am, however, regretting trying to give a benefit of the doubt after that gender-genitals comment, yikes.
Because after the initial interaction, the responses from the other side were abrasive as fuck. The same set of posters does the same weird personal attack shit all over the site. The OP is clearly showing themselves to be a raging asshole, but that doesn't excuse the other stuff. I've had numerous interactions with teebs on this site. He's occasionally very, very frustrating to deal with. At the same time, I'm not resorting to tearing apart his entire character on a forum that I mainly use to talk about a podcast about fast food. I don't know who he is, I know that I can talk to him like a human being and he can have a coherent conversation and admit that he is wrong. That's cool with me.
