@Mike J needs to be better about moderating this thread. TUG would never let his Used thread go this far off the rails.

Maybe mix in a little bit of You Can't Look Back style into them?

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

    wasn't talking about .k

And mike was civil about it, and then got lashed out at instead of having a conversation about what was happening. It escalated instantly.

It did escalate quickly. To me it looked like mike was trying to start something. The first post was civil and then he got pretty aggressive. That’s just how he is tho. Again I didn’t know it was him bc i thought he was banned from the site...

I’m sorry but colin isn’t dense. If you got to actually know him you’d see he’s a really smart, nice person. He’s just tired of the way things are handled here sometimes.

teebs, you’re the guy whose gimmick is defending shitty band dudes. also smart people don’t contradict themselves entirely within posts of each other and nice people don’t throw up their hands over toxicity and then do some paltry forum equivalent of subtweeting at a group of posters in the next breath. y’all drastically need to come across some self-awareness. enjoy Palms!

haha. That would be sweet. I have a random list of songs I'd like Thrice to cover, including Total Eclipse of the Heart and A Favor House Atlantic.

We're all adults here, surely this can all be resolved without calling each other out and insults.

    We can all do better.

From personal experience, being incredibly abrasive and having a clique of people jump into threads to dogpile on someone is not necessarily the best way to foster discussion. Both sides look bad here

being called out for something you didn’t actually say or imply is worse. Having people actually read your post and stand up for you is what a community is about.

Someone was looking to start up a gender bias in music debate at someone else’s expense is not cool. If something actually happened, it’s fair game. When it’s not there, don’t make it go there to pass your time.

Sure, but the weird jokes and prodding from the people that defended you after the fact that minimized the legitimacy of the claim that women are underrepresented in music were a bad look as well

    This was most post.

“[Thice] improved, and experimented with purpose. They didn't get lazy, they actually worked harder to use different instruments, self produce, use other complimentary instruments, and with Palms, include a guest vocalist”.

Only 1 person found a way to make this out to be offensive, and call me out.

I don't think anyone can say I'm one to start fights or always take the same side in arguments. I take the side that I feel is right. I looked back at the start of this argument and I still feel like this argument came out of left field and felt forced.

I'm all for gender equality. It is the best thing that could happen. It is true that there should be more women rock artists in the spotlight than there is right now. But gender equality means both men and women should be treated equally. If you wouldn't take offense at a male guest vocalist not being named in a forum post stating general new things a band have tried in a recent album, then gender equality would mean you shouldn't take offense either if it is a female guest vocalist. If you treat one gender in a different way that you treat the other, it is not equality. My point is, you shouldn't be forced to do something for one gender that you wouldn't do for the other one. Gender equality.

That said, the others that kept saying "guest vocalist" as a joke were being childish.

Okay, I can admit that’s using it as a joke in my original post was a bit childish and cheesy. I apologize for that, and meant no disrespect to the fact that women are often underrepresented in rock music, that is a true claim and I will continue to support women in rock music that are making great art.

Except it’s actually the opposite. No one was minimizing the claim that women are underrepresented in music. What everyone is saying, is that’s not what the topic of discussion was about at all, so to try and make the claim that’s what someone was doing is wrong.

The person in this case ironically was using insults to try and drive a point home. They came into the Thrice Palms thread and said we need to talk more about Emma Ruth Rundle, but in Emma’s new album thread never even made a post supporting her new music. This argument has more pages than her new album thread. If that poster is a fan of hers, why not post some positive conversation stuff in her thread, or bother to post a link to her thread to help promote her music. Instead I acknowledged I liked her voice, and posted a link to her thread to help promote her. Her solo stuff may not be for me though. And, I’m allowed to have that opinion on where to spend my entertainment dollars.

Can't argue that, but there was quite a bit of back and forth before that happened with everyone asking the user to chill out and stop. Doesn't make it right but it's different from the narrative of everyone immediately piling on.
