I don't think there was any harm meant here on either side. K. didn't seem to mean to come off as sexist, and Lazurus is just trying to make a fair point.

In all honesty I didn't really know about Emma Ruth Rundle before I heard her on this album! My own musical ignorance I guess haha. She is really good though and talented!

Good luck. I’m not even sure what point is trying to be Made.

Is it about being a big Emma fan? I’m guessing no, because they didn’t even post in her latest album thread. It’s not like that poster mentioned their favourite song by her, or even gave me a recommendation as for another song to sample. I didn’t even get asked what song didn’t click with me.

Is it about gender and the Rock genre? I’m guessing no, because the conversation was about an EP and complimenting the bands willingness to grow and evolve. There are lots of great threads and conversations on these boards going right now about this topic, so it’s not like an outlet or forum doesn’t exist. Just seems out of place in where the conversation was.

Is it about Thrice? Definitely not. Even though it’s a Thrice thread.

I’ll check in tomorrow. Hopefully the topic is back to more predictable silliness.

Be prepared to be name called for reasons unknown.

It was I no way sexist to refer to a guest vocalist as a guest vocalist. It is the opposite of sexist. It was sexless. Had it have been a man or women, they would both be referred to in he same manor. I chose not to focus on the name of the guest, because it was not relevant to the point.

The point being the band trying new things. No who the band was trying new things with.

Harm was meant when name calling becomes a thing. They can think I’m a dolt, but to start calling people dolt really doesn’t move a conversation in a positive direction.

But it’s the internet, and people do these things I guess.

I wish the EP was coming out tomorrow so I could hear new music and that’s be more interesting than this.

Years ago there was a rumour that the singer of Vedera was going to do vocals on a Thrice song. I don’t know her name but someone could fill that in. It never happened. When I had asked about it, it was clarified that it was for an unheard song, but was to be potentially used in Red Sky. I don’t know if they were ever properly recorded, or recorded to not adding to the final version of the song.

Vhessui came out a long time ago, so yeah, I’m glad they finally used a guest vocalist in some capacity. As a note, like was said earlier, Emma did a great job. I do wonder if an alternate version of Res Sky exists on a hard drive somewhere (although I believe it was never finished and the version we have it amazing).

I still want to hear the song from the Alchemy Index era that Island Records said they had to put on the record, but Dustin Kensrue, Teppei Teranishi, Ed Breckenridge, and Riley Breckenridge didn’t want to put on the record....and the rest is history.

We talk too much / We talk in circles

At the time, they both had the same manager so it's likely.

They had toured together around then to. Was it Nick managing both bands? I had never thought of that and it’d make perfect sense.

I never once insulted you in my message. Stop framing me. You’ve been constantly doing it in this thread and it’s pissing me off. I stated that I never once called you sexist and that you missed the point of everything I was saying. I see you failed to not respond to me though and decided to be public about it. You asked “can we be done with this” and I said all I needed to say, but here you are still going with it so maybe you should just knock it off already

Kristen May! My first real show was seeing Thrice with Underoath in 2005 when Vedera opened for them. I remember being blown away by her.

Implying that I missed the point is an insult to my intelligence or willingness to listen. You started in on this whole ridiculous side conversation for no real reason.

I complimented the band for a willingness try new things, without listing any specifics. Then you go after me for not using just 1 specific.

Thrice made a bold choice for self producing The Alchemy Index. It gave them complete creative control, allowed every member to be more involved in writing music, and added a ton of work for Teppei, plus all the engineering work they had to perform. Plus it wasn’t a safe choice for a label signed band, on a major. It actually lost them their record deal with Island. Thankfully Vagrant, Thrice and Island worked it out.

I credit the band for trying new instruments. Using a music box, in music box was a cool added feature. Using programming on The Water EP to highlight Riley’s other talents. Having the band use baritone guitars on Major/Minor added something new. Going acoustic based for earth. Trying an industrial sound on Only Us. Using a Harp on Blood on Blood.

Using a guest. Ocalist was also a big decision for the band. If they toyed with the idea of working with Kristen for Red Sky, it’s been years before they actually finally did it with Emma. Even having Ed sing on “we move like swing sets” generated buzz amongst the fan base. I’ve never been to a Thrice live show where a guest came and joined them on stage. It’s something that wasn’t really part of their repertoire, but I give them credit for finally going there. It adds something special to Palms. I think the decision to finally do it was probably a bigger deal than with who. The band has been around for 20 years. There have been a lot of very talented vocalists who haven’t been asked.

I really don’t think people want me to write that long of reply to every comment though,. So I omitted stuff in my original post because people know that stuff in here because there are a lot of great Thrice fans who do require constantly repeated specifics.

Agreed on the longer sets. I saw them with BMTH earlier this month and 10 songs felt like a tease. Also, Emma Ruth Rundle did those guest vocals on Just Breath. She put out an album last year that I really liked! Definitely take the time to check her out if you haven’t.

What I want even more than the Palm B-Sides are the Alchemy Index instrumentals that they teased on the M/M in studio videos.

Atreyu put out instrumentals of Curse and Deathgrip as their own releases, if Thrice did the same I'd buy them for sure.
