It's super obvious @.K. didn't mean or intend any disrespect or anything of the sort so I need to echo why did that turn into this?
He clearly didn't need to specify who was the guest vocalist as he was only stating that the general idea of having a guest vocalist was new for Thrice. It would have brought nothing more to his point.
Thanks. I just don’t know why people constantly do thesesort of things. I’m complimenting a band on their willingness include new things elements in their music. Sometimes people just try and twist things for some I don’t understand. Sorry for the rant, but it can be exhaustive having people try and call you out for a non existent reason.
Just like someone a couple weeks ago was only stating the general idea of having a female vocalist, and therefore didn't need to specify her name, right?
No problem. I had the same thing happen to me on here actually, best just to ignore it. I love that this site calls stuff out like this and the accountability threads are nice, but sometimes people go too far looking for it when it's not there.
Do people in this thread know anything about promoting female musicians in rock, a genre vastly dominated by men, instead of just referring to them as female/guest vocalists, or do y'all just enjoy swinging in here with derogatory comments and trying to shut down an important conversation? It's incredibly easy to do, yet some people in here consistently want to jump through hoops just to make themselves look good when the reality is that it's a bad look
Sometimes people just want to find an excuse to pat themselves on the back. Like they created some justice in the world. Except, they missed the point to begin with, in this case, complimenting a band for being open minded for trying new things when it’s right.
I didn’t know referring to a guest vocalist as a guest vocalist was considered offensive or derogatory. Especially since I was talking about Thrice in a Thrice thread.
One person decided they were bored and needed to start an argument about something that’s not there. Someone start ranking albums, stat.
Nice to see this website has still remained as some sort of click incapable of listening to a different viewpoint on more positive reinforcement for women in rock music. Guess some things never change
This is what you find offensive “[Thrice] improved, and experimented with purpose. They didn't get lazy, they actually worked harder to use different instruments, self produce, use other complimentary instruments, and with Palms, include a guest vocalist”.
Which could easily just say "Include Emma Ruth Rundle as a guest vocalist." That took me all of five seconds to type. Stop jumping through hoops my guy
Why do I have to do that? It’s common knowledge in this thread. Palms came out only few months ago. I don’t say I really like drumming on the bridge of the song, performed by Riley Breckinridge. I’d say I like the drumming on the bridge. It doesn’t mean I don’t respect Riley or drummers, any less than other members. If I said I like the chick’s guest vocals, I could see an objection. I didn’t come even close. You were trying to make a point at my expense and genderize a conversation which had nothing gender. We were talking about a possible upcoming EP and how the band keeps trying new things which is cool. Plus how we are glad they’ve come back and made great records.
But it's not common knowledge though and I know that based on how I saw someone in this thread refer to her as simply a "female vocalist" just last week or so. Also, I was never making a point at your expensive. I simply stated what her name was. I began to take issue when you made the comment about how you didn't buy her music (which is fine, obviously), but you would if Dustin guested on her music, which is simply just ignorant and disrespectful. And you probably intended for it to be a joke (maybe I'm wrong), but I'm here to tell you that, if it was a joke, it wasn't funny. Cutting down a woman's music in favor of one of your favorite vocalists, who obviously happens to be male, is not funny. And if it wasn't a joke and that's how you truly feel about Rundle's music and what it's worth to you, then that is truly unfortunate.
I would buy any record Dustin appears on because Ive been listening and loving his music since 2002. I have never been let down, and on top of that when I have met him at shows he’s always been such a kind person. So yeah, if he did a song with any band I’d check it out. He did a song with The Out Circuit. Got it. If he did a song on Emma’s record, I’d buy that song too. It’s not joke or insult at anyones expense. It just the truth. I listened to a song by her because she had a nice vocal contribution to Just Breathe. Her song didn’t click. I didn’t say it was horrible or amazing or anything of the sort. There’s a lot of different artists out there. It doesn’t need to be genderized, because that’s not the topic of conversation here. That’s not to say that topic isn’t important, it just not what was being discussed. If it weren’t for Thrice bringing her into Palms, I may have never even heard of her. Doesn’t mean other people can’t love her or in any way an insult. Maybe fans of her music bought Just Breathe, and not the rest of Palms. As a Thrice fan, I’m not insulted, because it’s their taste and entertainment money. You really were trying to make a point at my expense. Plus you decided to get into name calling, trying to insult me by calling me a dolt and challenging Thrice fans. There’s a lot of silly chatter in this thread, but this is a huge waste of time if that’s gone way off course. I posted a link of an Emma thread below for you or anyone else interested. I noticed you haven’t posted in there, so maybe there’s a chance you didn’t know it existed or maybe you’re not really a huge fan of hers after all. I don’t really care either way. Emma Ruth Rundle – On Dark Horses (September 14, 2018) • forum.chorus.fm Can this be done now
What you said in those first two paragraphs, to me, is a lot different than what your earlier posts said, especially only buying a Rundle record if Dustin was on it. As for your issue with my response, you started talking about me and dismissing me without making any direct comments towards me and were going around feeling comfortable on your high horse. How can you possibly try ending this conversation with a childlike “Well you did and then you said this” as if your behavior thus far wasn’t warranting it? It’s exhausting to talk about this and see people like you putting your hands over your ears and ignoring me like anything I’m saying doesn’t have value. Why this conversation earlier and had to go through a mind-numbing back and forth speaks volumes to me about how you handle discourse.
If you’ve got a problem with it, you could always hop into another thread to talk about other music, or anything really, instead of continuing to make snide remarks
