Never thought I’d live to see the day bands like Seether, Nickelback, and Creed were called nu metal, but here I am and I wish I never logged back into this account
It's literally just one person who has a history of really bad takes. The rest of us know better than that haha,
I smelled the Refused shit talk and had to stop in here and say c'monnnnnn. Freedom wasn't nearly as bad as people thought. Reunion albums are almost unanimously shit on because they can't live up to the hype you felt at 11 discovering the band in the first place. Good comeback album from both Refused and ATDI, ya damn haters EDIT: Kudos to whomever recommended The Dirty Nil. They are fucking rad so far.
List of nu metal bands - Wikipedia "Post-grunge" is the ultimate euphemism. It's a label for what these bands (and their fans) WANT to be identified as, rather than accepting what they are. As a fan, I get the need to reject a label. I, too, rejected Thrice's "screamo" label once upon a time even though many called them that. (I still don't think they fit bands of that ilk as Story of the Year has no business being in the same sentence as Thrice.) "Post-grunge" is insulting to actual grunge and all the great bands that defined that glorious era.
I legit love Mike J's love for the band and the hype he brings when new stuff is coming and even though it's laughable that he hates a lot of the band's stuff and still claims to be this #1 fan, it's all good because opinions are opinions..... But it's the talking "for" the band that is really weird and comes off super elitist when he complains about how the band should do stuff the way he wants. All in all, I feel like if any of the 4 members heard the way he talks about them or other bands in general they would be embarrassed.
When I first heard M/M it was among my top because it was fast paced and that's what I wanted. Other songs have grown on me more over time and but Blur will always rule.
When are RSD 2019 releases going to be announced? We are a little over 2 months away. Seems around the right time to announce for hype. If I waited on line just to get the Sea Change 7", I damn will as well for this alleged B-Side record.
I'm still hoping it's a EP worth of tracks instead of just one song, if they really did write that many songs for Palms. Since Palms is all over the place musically, I am getting hyped thinking about what type of songs they have!
The strange thing is: TBE compiled songs from each individual member during hiatus. They didn't write these songs in the same room so no one was on the same page, really. If any record should be feel scattered and unrelated, you'd think it'd be TBE. However, the record sounds incredibly cohesive and "of one piece," even if it manages to pull various sounds from their extensive catalog. "Palms" was mostly written on tour and with more interaction between members. However, all the songs are completely irrelative to the each other. When Dustin said, "No idea was off the table," he meant it. Ultimately, production is the biggest difference as to why this happened. Palmquist produced TBE with a sonic through line to where each song felt akin to the other. The band couldn't afford to play with sounds all day during the TBE sessions. Since Eric only did drums and vocals on Palms, the band changed up the guitar tones on each and every song to where there was no sonic through line. Thus, Palms feels like a bunch of disparate songs, and not an album that's analogous like TBE.
You do realize I responded to the person who said “Palms is all over the place musically,” not totally right? So many of the songs on Palms are absolutely similar to each other stylistically. The only songs I can think of that aren’t are Everything Belongs, My Soul, Blood On Blood, and the last song. Thing is, none of those songs showed me anything I didn’t expect from Thrice already besides the bridge in Blood On Blood. This album really just blends together for me and lacks any true standouts like TBE had several of. I’ll give it to you about the recording process of this album though. I didn’t know portions of it were done by different producers and that’s interesting.
